14 month old daughter has KP

Hi.

I'm new to this site.

My 14 month old daughter was just diagnosed with KP. I'm discouraged because it seems she will be dealing with KP for the rest of her life. She has bumps on her legs, arms, and face. There is no reddness anywhere - just bumps. Will the bumps on her face go away or do the bumps on her face mean that she also has KP Rubra Faceii?

Also, what treatments are the best for babies? Our doctor recommended using Cetaphil lotion twice daily.

I am also new here and have a 12-month-old with KP on her face, arms, and legs. I am also very discouraged about her having to deal with this the rest of her life. I know I am getting caught up in the vanity of it, but little girls shouldn't have to deal with this!! People even ask me- "Does she have a rash or something?" Anyway, I have been researching online and there are many treatments but I don't know which ones are ok for little babies. Is there a host on this site- a Dr. that answers questions?

Hi!

I'm new to this site also, and I have a two year old little girl with Keratosis Pilaris. She has bumps on her cheeks, upper-back part of her arms and on her thighs. I am currently using Eucerin Plus. I don't know yet if this is going to help, or if I should try something else.

I feel sorry for her, because the bumps are so noticeable and people just look at her, like she has some awful disease.

Can anyone give me any other ideas?????????

Hi! My little girl turned 1 this week and also has KP on her cheeks and thighs. I was devastated at first, but starting to just accept her bumpy skin - what else can you do? I also was very upset about the appearance factor, myself and my dh having been blessed with great skin (our daughter is adopted). We are doing what we've been told to do and I'll keep watching for new things to try, but my understanding is you need to give anything new a minimum of 2-3 weeks to see if it makes a difference. My cousin's son has it as well, and now in second grade, she says his has improved considerably as he's gotten older - so I'm going to choose to be hopeful that my child's KP will improve as well as she gets older. Hopefully that will be the case for all of our kids!
Best wishes,
Lynda

Thumbs up Eucerin Plus a Plus

After trying almost everything for our 20 month old who has had Keratosis Pilaris since near birth we are now using Eucerin Plus--in the aqua tube--in the thick cream form, not the lotion. We have used Dr. prescribed Elidel, Acid Mantle, HydroCortisone, etc... as well as Johnson's Baby Oil gel, Aveeno lotion, Aquaphor, and regular Eucerin.

While the bumps are still there to some extent, the extreme redness and aggravated sores are gone--except on her bottom, which is weird since urea is the main ingredient in the Eucerin Plus.

We are waiting to get into the pediatric dermatologist--waiting for almost 4 months now--but have an appt in the next few weeks. Will let you know if there are any other suggestions, but for now, we are pleased with the result.

I have KP, too, but only a mild case on the back of my arms and legs. Embarassing and unsightly, but at least not life threatening!

HI Susan

I have a son of 6jrs turning 7jrs in Jan 07 and another son of 14 months, Kyle of 6 jears have has KP form 8months and I have just descovered that my baby Jordan is getting the same bumps on his face, oh hell, the curse of KP, I have it on my upper arms and now both my sons have it, NO there is no cure and it will never go away I have found that when i use a cream called Fucidon then it keeps it at bay but it never realy goes away, I also feel that our children is TOOOOOO young to be using scrubs on their faces as some people recomend, but you know you will with time (as i did) discover what is best for your child. You will get a lot of remidies and you are more than likely going to try them, just be patient and you will see the light as I have Not a cure but a light Hope you all the wellness that you can get Tanja (South Africa)

I just figured out last week that kp is what my 14 mo daughter is suffering from. I'm kind of relieved that i know what these bumps/rash are on her arms, knees and cheeks, but as the days go on I feel really sad that she has this condition that will be with her forever. Poor little thing. My husband has quite bumpy skin on his arms, and often gets inflamed pores on his thighs - now that i've learned about kp it all makes sense.

So far the action i've taken is to stop using the bath wash and moisturising cream (for atopical skin) that i had been using, in favour of more natural products. We have never used anything but water to wash her face, and continue to do that. For her body we're now using pure glycerin soap, and I've been applying natural donkey milk body lotion (Mexican product from Laboratorios Grisi http://www.grisi.com/) twice a day - morning and after bathtime. I admit that 5 days in i haven't seen any improvement, but i'm going to try for another couple of weeks before i start anything else.

The other 'remedies' i'm considering if this doesn't work are two products I've read about on this site. First is the Pearson's Promise range (http://www.pearsonspromise.com/skincare-system.html) - the cleansing bar and body lotion are suitable for infants. Second is the new cream Bioskincare (http://www.abateit.com/ingredients.htm) which is also suitable for infants. They're quite expensive though (especially as i need to pay for shipping to Spain where i live) so i'm holding out to see if the donkey milk helps at all first. Has anyone else tried these products on their children, or even on themselves? I'd be keen to hear how they've worked. Do you have to keep it up even after the bumps/rash have cleared?

I really want to keep it natural and avoid any harsh pharmaceutical creams. For that reason i haven't bothered going to see the pedi yet, or asked for a referral to a dermatologist. To be honest, i doubt whether they've even heard of kp here in Spain - i will ask the pedi at the next check-up in 3 weeks time. I have a dermatologist appt for myself that same week so i will also ask her if she's ever heard of kp. If they haven't heard of it, i doubt there's any point asking for their help as they'd probably try and treat it like excema or some other commonly known skin condition...

I'm glad i've found this site, just to know i'm not alone trying to help my daughter.

Rachel

Hi Rachel

I took my son to the derma and he gave my son one look and said it was KP and said there is nothing you can do for it, well so far he is right you cannot cure it but you sure as hell can keep it under control I am just fortunate that my two sons, 7 years and 14 mths dont have is very badly, the bumps are there but there is no redness so I just use a cream called Fusiodin and this seems to help for me Tanja (RSA)

A word of encouragement. My daughter is now 28 months old and her kp has improved considerably since she was 1. I'm expecting it to get worse again as winter hits, but it's tremendously better overall. I use cetaphil lotion after her baths and as needed to moisturize, but mostly I think time has improved her condition. My cousin has kp as do her children, one in hs and one in elem - and all of them have had improvement as they have gotten older. I honestly don't think about my daughter's kp much anymore - she is beautiful no matter if her skin has a flush or a few bumps and I tell her so all the time. Giving your child a great self esteem is most important...

Best wishes,
Lynda

I have to agree with you God has given me the two most beautiful boys in the whole world and I dont realy notice their skin anymore, not that it is gone it has just become part of them and who they are, luckily my oldest son doesnt realy care about it, i think it bothers me most of all as I have this very badly on my upper arms and I am very self contious about it and dont like being touched on my arms, every one i know dont even notice it but I am very aware and thus i am very aware about my sons faces but try not to make to big a deal about it as they are just the most beautiful children in the world, I wish there was a way to show all of you how beautiful they are and this makes it all worht while in the end

Very true. Our little ones are beautiful to us no matter what. Thankfully my dd's kp doesn't seem too bad compared to some of the photos i've seen of other toddlers on the web, and the truth is that i don't really notice it when i look at her and touch her. She's just who she is, and to me and dh she's the most beautiful girl in the world!

KP help for little kids

When my son was born, he had bumps on his face. I tried everything to get them to go away, but had no luck. When he was about 8 months old, I took him to my dermatologist and she diagnosed my son with KP (I have it on my arms & legs). She gave me samples of some ointment called Acnemyocin (spelling?). This ointment cleared up the KP in about a week. He no longer has it on his face. If you've tried other treatments and have had no luck, you might ask your doctor about the Acnemyocin. It really helped my son!

Thanks for the recommendation. I looked it up on the web and it appears it's not available in Spain where i live. Never mind. Cheers anyway!
