I just joined the KP forum. I am 42 yo and I have suffered with KP most of my life. It started on the back of my legs when I was younger and that has cleared up and now it is on the front of my legs from my knee on up and the back of my arms. My arms are the worse. From years of picking I have bad scars.
My 5 yo son was diagnosed with this. We have been to several dermatologists without any success. At first he was prescribed Elavil (sp?) but the Dr made me give the rx back because they were recalling it due to it causing cancer. It did work however. My son also has Asthma. He has been hospitalized a few times for this condition. When his asthma is really bad they prescribe oral prednisone. This medication clears up his skin beautifully. However, it is not something you should take on a continuous basis. My son has it on his cheeks. Poor guy, he saw a commercial for ProActive and asked me to buy it for his pimples He has tried the Cepahil soap, AmLactin, Bactroban and Hydrocortisone and it does not help. I read alot of the threads and they all indicate that it is related to dry skin . My son doesn't have dry skin and neither do I. I have very oily skin and so far his looks normal except for the KP.Any suggestions? Thanks for your help. ![]() |

Re: New Member
When I was a kid, the derm told my mom to have me use neutrogena transparent bar soap, and it cleared up my KP completely in 2 weeks.
It's worth a shot for you to try it on your son, and compared to other things you could try, not all that expensive. |
