Re: Acids On Babies!! Oh My!!

Hi there, I just came back from dermatologist. My 11 monts old baby girl has KP.

I have never heard about KP before, but as it turns out I have it all my life and my husband had it too. Long story short, from dermatologists' office I went straight downstairs to Pharmacy and bought Cetaphil bar soap and AHA lotion. It didn't make any sence to me to heal dry skin with acid, but I tought to my self:"It's not mine to think, but to do what I'm told to do !!!" But, I started looking up on the internet and I came accross this site, oh am I ever glad. Things here make more sence to me. I'm startting my babies KP bettle today! I don't know what I'll do first, but I know what I'll never do - USE THIS AHA LOTION I'M LOOKING AT RIGHT NOW!

Thanks Dann! Good luck to all of us!

Re: Acids On Babies!! Oh My!!

My 2 year old daughter was just diagnosed today with KP. For the past 18months we were told she had ezema. Anyway, I read this post and looked at what I had been perscribed to give my daughter for her "ezema" for the past 18months is a cream called Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream. So not only was I treating her for something she didn't have, I was putting a cream that could have harmed her poor baby skin. It has cetyl alcohol and lactic acid in it! Needless to say the cream didn't work. And I thank the person who posted this to open peoples eyes to look at what they are really putting on their babies skin. My daughter has a severe case on her cheeks, arms, legs and bottom. A lot of her bumps have the white head at the top. I feel so bad for her and I hope to find some more good info on this site!
Thanks Again

Unhappy Re: Acids On Babies!! Oh My!!

My son was had had KP since birth (3 1/2 yrs.) and the worse case his doctor and allergist have ever seen. he has it on his entire arms, legs and face. His face is covered with red angry bumps that flair up for no apparent reason. He has scars on his face from the bumps. We were told this week to start him on a cream with AHA--help! I refused the Retin A, but didn't know that AHA was bad. Does anyone have any advice for this desperate Mum? Thanks in advance!

Re: Acids On Babies!! Oh My!!

Tomsmom,

I'm so glad you are making your own decision about whether to use AHA or not. Doctors don't know everything and we remain free agents to follow their advice or not.

I suggest you read as many posts as you can in Parent's Corner, and hopefully you will find something to help your son. Have you ruled out food allergies? Not that they may cause KP, but might contribute. This is just a guess on my part. Also, you may want to look into omega oils for children. I think one of our posters, Bunnyday, gives her son omega capsules. Bunnyday, if you read this, can you respond?

Please keep in touch, and feel free to join any of the on-going discussions/threads with your own comments and questions. I hope you find something that helps Tom.

Tomsmom,

Read the posts by Bunnyday on this page:
Try switching cow's milk to non dairy milk

You can click "search" on the upper right of the page and type in "bunnyday" to find more posts by her.

Re: Acids On Babies!! Oh My!!

Thanks getting being there. He was allergy tested again last week, this time for 32 different substances including foods and he only reacted to dust mites. It is so frustrating! I just love how the doctors' have no advice on this subject. We don't drink cow's milk or eat processed or 'white' foods and have tried different eliminations over the years but nothing has changed his KP. I'll keep reading and contacting people and keep the advice coming everyone!

Thank you.

Re: Acids On Babies!! Oh My!!

Thanks kebod. So the EVCO can be applied to a child's face? You all have some wonderful ideas...and I'm just trying to sort them out and try them out on my daughter!

Re: Acids On Babies!! Oh My!!

Yes, I think it would be fine. Why don't you first put a very small amount on a very small area of the face and see if she reacts favorably. Even adults need a very small amount a coconut oil -- a little bit goes a long way. It is most absorbable when the skin is damp, like right after a bath. Please let me know if she is OK with it.

Re: Acids On Babies!! Oh My!!

I agree completely and have not used any acid-based lotions on my son with KP. You mentioned EVCO in your post- Can you tell me what that is?
