Kp on my sons face
Hi,
I'm hoping I can get some helpful suggestions, that can at least make my 8yr old sons face look better. We just went to our second dermatologist, and was given Salex. It did work great as far as flattening the bumps out, but I got a little nervous because he had redness that was very noticeable. I called the derm. and he said to use it once a week until the weather cooled off. My son goes to camp, and is either outside, or in a pool, a good part of the day. I wanted to make sure that the sun woudn't cause some pigmint change. I was nervous about using the Salex and him being in the sun. As soon as I stopped using it the bumps came back. He does a lot of swimming, could chlorine make this worse? I noticed as he gets older and swims more it looks worse. I'm afraid to put too much sunscreen on his face. This also makes it worse. Any suggestions for a sunscreen that will not make it worse? I'm also noticing that where some of the bumps were is now some brown spots. I don't want to do anything to make scars on his face. Dermatologist 1 told me to use cortaid when it was inflamed. Has anyone heard of that? He's starting to get embarresed. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! ![]() |

Hi - what was the diagnosis that the dermatologist gave your son?
Did he mention KPRF (keratosis pilaris rubra faciei)? Are the red bumps more on the bottom/side of his cheeks? It may pay you to look through the "KP Rubra Faceii forum". Some of the posters have placed pictures on the site so you can check if your sons conditon resembles them. You will see on this site some treatments that ones are currently trialling. Does your son have bad KP on the top of his arms also? - sorry for all the questions - just trying to work out what your son has. |

Kp on my sons face
Hi Anne,
The diagnosis was just Keratosis Pilaris that was all that was ever mentioned. The red bumps are not on the sides of his cheeks I would have to say the middle of the cheek. He has very few on his upper arms. I'm so glad you asked the questions I'd appreciate any help, or ideas you have. Kim |

Hi Again
You may want to have a look at this thread What's worked for your kids? Annuu is a NZ pharmacist who developed some products for his own sons KP. Ones on this site have tried it with good success. I only know Annuu from this site and have used the extra virgin coconut cream myself and on my son to help with redness in the eyebrow area. You may wish to look at his website or email him direct with your questions. His products are natural and gentle which I believe is important when you a talking about an 8 year old. All the best Anne |
