What does KP look like on face

Hi new to the site and this condition. I have suffered from kp my whole life and never knew what it was or what to do about it. My doctor told me yesterday that the bumps on my daughters arms are kp. What are some products that are good for a five year old to use. My two year old gets red flushed rash on her face when she gets too hot. My ped says it is heat rash but now I'm wondering if it is KP. When she gets too hot and sweaty or very upset her cheeks turn red then get raised and later become bumpy and red (not like my five year olds arms). The bumps are flatter than kp on my five year olds arms. Just wanted any input on this subject. Thanks in advance.

Hi,
I am sorry to hear that your children have KP. There are some natural products that are made with coconut oil and lactic acid that have been suggested for kids on this forum - look for Annu's posts - he has alot of helpful information.

Your daughter that gets the red flushed cheeks sounds like she may have KPRF - Keretosis Pilaris Rubra Facei (sp??)....you can look at this site for more info on that or google it. It seems that it is common for Dr's to not know much about KP or variants of KP like KPRF and just say that it is a heat rash, eczema, or hives when actaully it is KP.

There is not one magic cure out there but one thing that has helped my son who has KP is to add an omega 3-6-9 supplement to his diet. I use organic flax seed oil. I add about 1 tbls to his milk or yogurt (he is 18 months and about 3o lbs). Flax seed is actually a really good fat for kids to have - it helps with brain development. The kind I buy is from 'Whole Foods' and it also has DHA (found naturally in breast milk) in it which is now found in baby formula and a bunch of other baby products. I also give him about 4-6 oz of carrot juice a day - I mix it with apple juice and he loves it. Vit A helps KP in some cases.

Best of luck.

Re: What does KP look like on face

I am adding two children to the group. My son is five years old and was diagnosed with KP at age 1 after several wrong diagnosis' of eczema. He used every steroid cream out there and a doctor at CHOP finally diagnosed him with KP and suggested no treatment except for aquaphor. It worked and my son no longer has bumps on his face but is often very red in the cheeks.

My second son is one years old, and about a month ago got a red bump under his eye They told me again it was eczema and prescribed a hydrocortisone cream. Because he has asthma I half believed this diagnosis. Now it has spread around the mouth and to the other eye and his cheeks also become very red. I really feel he has KP but I cannot get into that Dermatologist at Childrens hospital until October. HE was the only one who correctly diagnosed my first son. Even the most well known dermatologist in the area went with the eczema diagnosis and contributed to damaging my first child soft skin. HELP what should I do????????????????????????
