is it kp?
hi.
our youngest son had the common little "pimples" on his face at birth, as did our oldest son. he is now almost two, and still has the pimples on his face. he has also gradually developed them in increasing severity on his upper arms and thighs, then his forearms and shins. he also has a patch on his rear end which started out the same, but now seems more like excema, as the skin is very thick and itchy. his bumps start out as bumps, but then most of them turn into whiteheads which have gotten itchy, especially on his arms. they do bleed if he scratches them enough, and the pediatrican gave us hydrocortisone cream. i have always had the "chicken skin" thing, and our pediatrician casually mentioned that our son must have inherited it from me, but that was before it got this bad, and was also during doctor's visits for ailments other than his skin. i'm just trying to find out if this is what he really has, or if i should pursue other possibilities..... any advice? thanks for you time and help! gigi |

sounds like it is...but then again....he has itching and excess sensitivity so that thros things off. Anyways, start reading baranster's post about food sensitivities and detoxing the gut. The skin is the largest organ thru which the body tries to release toxins. This is all an indication of digestive problems if you aks me and putting a cream only now and then only appeases the symptoms but doesn't get to the root cause. Try going to a natural/homeopathic doctor or nutritional advisor/digestive specialist and ask about leaky gut syndrome. It might also be caused by a vita a deficiency. Try giving him carrot juice and see if you notice a difference. Carrot juice is packed with beta carotene which is a safe form of vita a that the body uses at its own pace when it needs it. But beware, it could come back, maybe worst if he all of the sudden stops giving his body extra beta carotene. This has helped keep my bumps away.
In the meantime you might want to take him to a dermatologist who can give him a stronger steroid cream which will probably help with the itching, redness, and stuff just for now. But don't expect M.D's to know very much about helping patients with these kindda conditions on the skin cause they don't know as much as they should and sometimes they'll make you feel horrible by telling oyu it's genetic and there's not much you can do about it. This is an overgeneralization, but this has been my experience with the 5 dermatologists that i have been to. But don't worry about them...just use a derm to give you steroids cream for now cause that sucks for a two year old to be irritated and itchy all the time when all he wants to do it play in peace =) |

thanks for your help!
i'm going to try one thing at a time, so i guess i'll start with cream on his arms and legs every day as the doctor recommended, so at least i can say i tried his route. i've just been afraid to because i feel as if i'm going to be clogging his skin up more than it already is... also, i wonder if it might have anything to do with the fact that he's been on antibiotics almost constantly since october for recurring ear infections... we're taking him to my acupuncturist/homeopathic doctor next week for the ear problem, because i don't want to put him on antibiotics for the next two months. we'll have to have her check out his skin also. i can't thank you enough for your help. gigi |

I am going to link 2 websites for you to read aout how food senitivites relate to your sons ear infections and KP.
www.theresourcefulmother.com look up food sensitivies it is on the left hand side right underneath "home", and read about how when left untreated can get cronic ear infections. www.robynsnest.com this time on the home page put "food senstivity" in your search, the third article says food allergies and sensitivies, click on that one, it will also talk about ear infections. I mention these as you are going to a naturopath/acupuncture anyways.....and that is where you can hopefully get a vega test done (the test is based on acupuncture points) to test for food senstiviities. That is how I cured a serious 21 year case of KP. It also healed a whole bunch of other ailments I was suffering. I have another thread in general discussion called "worst case cured naturally" that Daisy was talking about. there is loads of information, maybe too much at this point, but my very last post, linked three more sites that discuss this topic to better inform about how food sensitivites relate to our health and ailments. And yes I do agree with you that the antibiotics are probably what caused the problem in the first place.......good gut instict. If you google leaky gut syndrome, it will explain very well how this happens to us. Last edited by baronster; 05-19-2007 at 05:57 AM. |
