child with KP

Hi I am new to the board.
My son is 10 and has KP diag hosp when he was 3 . Has anyone notice that this gets better when they hit puberty, My dr said this might help when the oil glands get a kick start.
My son has it on his face , it does get worse in different temperatures.
I put moisturisers on when its really bad.
Any advice would be helpful
thanks

You can bring him to an N.D. and get him tested for food sensitivities... his body might not be processing something in foods properly, thereby leading to the manifestation of KP in the skin.

I've had moderately mild kp since i was 8 and it gets worse when i eat certain foods containing dairy, beef, hot spices and alcohol but when I avoid them it's at the level where people think i have freckles on my arms. Using a lotion containing alpha hydroxy acids can help, too. I use the Kiss My Face brand from Trader Joe's. Keeps the moisture in better.

Be wary of the topical lotions some doctors may prescribe to "help" the KP. I tried some when I was younger (around 10 yrs old) and they really burn, itch and hurt.

Take care.

Hi,
I have kp, and 2 of my children do. My oldest girl has had this since she was a small child. My son who is just entering puberty is now having skin issues.

We've done the dermatologist round with my daughter and it was not a good experience.

Good luck,
Molsmom

Deficiencies of vitamins A, C, E, and fatty acids play a role in the expression of kp, so I give my kids children's Centrum and Minute Maid Kid's OJ which is fortified with Vitamins A, B1, C, E, and calcium. It's also a lot easier on their skin and their psyche than scrubbing and oiling them all the time!

I've seen a major improvement in my own kp since I began taking additional vitamin A (I've read adults can take up to 10,000IU), vitamin E, and fish oil capsules along with my Centrum multivitamin.
