I have had kp on my arms and legs since I was baby. Growing up I was ridiculed. My mother took me to a dermatologist and the first said I had eczema. So I used phisoderm for decades. The second said I had scabies(I'm a notorious picker and have scars and had scabs). The third said I had a genetic contion that I couldn't do anything about it
. Now I have a daughter(2.5 years) and she has the condition. It's on her upper arms and sometimes it comes on her face(where her fine sideburns are coming in). Because this condition only happens around hair follicles, I was wondering if laser hair removal would do anything? Many times when I 'pop' the whiteheads, a coiled hair comes out. I wonder if it has anything to do with hormones? My daughters' case seems to 'flare up' when she has growth spurts. When I was pregnant my lower arms were seriously affected. We are vegetarians and I tried going without milk products for quite a while and it had no effect on me. I have a lot a scarring so I was going to try a chemical peel. But first I am going to try the laser treatments and hopefully it will fix both problems! I did find that my skin was softer using Aveeno Oatmeal Bar but nothing I've ever used has made it go completely. |

Hi Jenn177 - Eliminating diary wasn't a cure-all for me either. I've had KP on and off for 30+ years. A variety of things seem to influence or irritate my skin. There are three very active threads in General Discussion by the authors kebod, turquois and baronster that use dietary and topical approaches. I'm having some good results so far tackling KP with first some moderate dietary and now some mild sugar scrubbing. I'd encourage you to read at those 3 and also more from other moms. It seems like hormones are a big trigger for KP particularly adolescence and pregnancy or post-partum changes. I think some of my current issue is changes in hormones, being middle-aged, and also I moved to a dry climate a few years ago. There's a mom whose thread is "Stop the madness", and she's using a mild soap and lotion (topical) treatment and having success with her daughter's KP. check it out - bunnyday
