Re: What's worked for your kids?
Yu can purchase it at dermadoctor.com The lotion I think is $36 and the scrub is $42 but lasts a good year. In the daytime I use cetaphil lotion on him do to the sun (we live in Florida) and in the evening I put on the KP Duty lotion. When it clears up I continue with cetaphil lotion and stop using the KP Duty lotion and scrub. I bath him with Johnson & Johnson baby bath because it is sensitive to the skin and hypoallergenic. I tried cetaphil wash and it did not work. So far so good. No flair ups yet.

Re: What's worked for your kids?
Hi!
my 13 year old daughter has a pretty bad case of KP and of course now that she is a teen ager she is just devastated. She has it on her face, back of her arms, back, and legs. The KP duty lotion sounds like it might be worth a try. Do you suggest using BOTH the exfoliant and the lotion? I'm about ready to try anything for her. Any help appreciated......thanks! Tina |

Hi,
My son was diagnosed with KP a month ago and it started on his face in one small area. He had a bad fever/cold and since it started spreading everywhere. It slowly moved across his face and down to his upper arms. On his arms it started as small rough bumps showing up on the top of his lower arms and the back of his upper arms. He also had some rough bumps spread to his upper thighs. This is when his pediatrician saw him and said it was Keritosis Pilaras. It then got worse, and all the areas where the rough bumps were became very red and inflamed, and he even had inflamed patches all the way down his legs. I read something under a seabuckthorn treatment thread that it could be a demodex mite infestation and I made the connection that it seemed to spread slowly down his body. I ordered Seabuckthorn soap and oil to start a treatment, and I also give him the seabuckthorn juice supplement. I have seen vast improvement on his whole body, but his face is the last area to clear up. It gets very dry and chapped, and his grandma messed up my treatment twice by applying cortisone cream! It chapped his thin healing skin and put his face on a setback. I have before and after pictures, it is a huge difference. In combination to the seabuckthorn treatment/oil I apply coconut oil with the seabuckthorn oil and I found it has helped his face, where the skin is very dry, chapped, and inflamed. I was using the Dr. prescribed lotions prior to this treatment and I found it did not help his condition, and that it seemed to dry out his face also. I don't know if he had a demodex mite infestation, but I have seen improvements. It could be that the seabuckthorn treatment helps with inflammation. Seabuckthorn is a nutrient-packed berry that has over 12 times the vitamin C of an orange, along with other nutrients. If you have questions there is a great explanation of the seabuckthorn treatment on this site. It is expensive, but when I looked at how bad my son's condition had gotten, I was willing to try it. -Kerstin (Zeeker) |

Re: What's worked for your kids?
Hi Zeeker - I'm so glad to hear that worked for your son, thanks for sharing your experience. My daughter (now 5) has skin very similar to how you described your son's - red and inflamed on her face, and also affecting her arms and legs. I'm going to try the sea buckthorn/coconut oil regimen on her too - there just might be something to this demodex thing (I did check out the SBT/demodex threads in the General Discussion - very interesting).
Our skin (daughter and I) gets much better after it's tanned a bit from the sun, or after swimming in salt water while on vacations near the ocean (sigh, if only we could live in Greece, not just holiday there!). I swim in chlorinated water once a week, and that seems to help too, even if it is a bit drying. I imagine all those things would "inhibit" demodex. Of late we've been using a "Body Butter" made by Rocky Mountain Soap Company (Canmore, Alberta) on our KP-affected skin. It comes as a solid "stick", like anti-perspirant, and it really helps with the roughness and skin "hardness". It contains veg. oil, beeswax, cocoa seed butter and vitamin E. It definately helps with skin texture and I just love it! |
