to exfoliate or not kp returning as i get older? You can also look in the internet for fruit seeds that can be added to help the skin, like apricot seed powder, crushed grape seeds. I suggest moisturizing after exfoliating. You can make a natural moisturizer with oil or lotion and add Calendula/Marigolds petals (search for calendula petals in Google): Simply add:
Let it rest for 3 days. Apply it first to a small area on your skin and wait to see if there's a reaction. I have never seen a person with a reaction to this oil, but we have to be very careful... If there's no reaction (irritation) you can use the product on a daily basis to moistuirize. If you want to benefit from Calendula right away while the oil is resting for 3 days...you can infuse the petals in hot water for 3 minutes (like the way you make tea) and when at room temperature apply it directly to the skin. ![]() Calendula is known to be 80% effective to treat skin diseases. Some people compare it's effectiveness with hydrocortisone ones (without the side effects). I used to make this oil for people with skin diseases like psoriasis and dermatitis. I don't make them anymore, that's why I'm sharing my secrets with all of you. ![]() To rnmom76: I hope that you find a solution that is not harsh on your child skin...If this treatment doesn't work, let me know and I (or any other member here) can suggest you different alternatives. The KP Community is very friendly and loves to help others going through the same... ![]() |

Re: What's worked for your kids?
Have any parents tried straight coconut oil on their child's skin? If so, I would be interested in learning if it helped or not.
Thank you, kebod |

Re: What's worked for your kids?
Annuu, Just checking to see what the resuls of your cream was. My 2 year old son has KP on his face, arms and legs but because of his age the only thing we can do for him apply 1% Hydrocortizone which really doesn't help. Needless to say I'm looking for a better solution.

Re: What's worked for your kids?
Hi Puddin (love the name!)
There are two products that I formulated for kids with kp: 1. Koru kp Oleum (based upon Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil, other emollients/thickeners and Vitamin E...it contains no AHA). It is very bland and mild, and seems to be helpful for irritated skin, dermatitis and eczema. 2. Lacteem kp Junior [contains the mild buffered AHA complex: lactic/sodium lactate (as found in yogurt), citric (as found in citrus fruits), tartaric (as found in grapes), avocado oil, vitamins A, C & E and is parabens free. There has been very correct and healthy discussion about using caution with AHAs for children, indeed the FDA has published a statement on this. Certainly strong AHA (i.e. glycolic) and at high concentrations should never be used on children (and cautiously with adults!). The mild, buffered AHAs, which are in Lacteem kp Junior, should only be used after first discussing with your child's doctor/dermatologist/pediatrician. All of the feedback received from parents on Koru kp Oleum and Lacteem kp Junior (published verbatim) is shown on Page 2 of this thread. This will provide you with a balanced view of their experiences. I agree with your comment about not using 1% hydrocortisone... steroids always have unhappy side effects, and while they can be helpful for acute use, I would not recommend using such products long term! Kind regards, Annuu ![]() |

Re: What's worked for your kids?
Hi All - My 5 yr old (almost 6) has evidenced KP on his arms in particular this summer after chlorine pools made it really flar up and a little on his face. No surprise there, I have it and is father has mild on the arms. Since both my husband's and mine have been improved with oil pulling and EFAs I figured I'd first try that route. There is NO way my little guy will hold oil in his mouth _without talking_! so I found strawberry flavored fish oil capsules for him to chew. Nordic naturals and the fishy flavor is almost not there. I call them "brain vitamins" so "he can be as smart as a superhero" and that works. His KP is improved. His diet doesn't contain ANY fish. He does eat carrots a lot and peas. The pancakes he eats have a little soy and almond meal in them. He eats almost no meat. SO it seemed like a good dietary idea to add EFA. It's helping and we've been doing it about a month. - bd

Re: What's worked for your kids?
Hi all! My 2 1/2 year old daughter has the bumps all over her legs (thighs and calves) on backs of her arms and slightly on her cheeks. Any advice on shampoo, soap, and lotions? We are currently using Dove (unscented) soap, Johnson's shampoo and Aquaphor for lotion. Any suggestions for alternatives - as these are not effective - would be GREATLY appreciated!!! Good luck and thank you all - this site has been so informative!

Re: What's worked for your kids?
Hi there Laurcouture:
Sorry to hear your story, but the good news is that you are not alone, there are many supportive and helpful people here at kp.org. As requested, I have sent you a private message to provide more details on our unique products for kp, and how to obtain them. Kind regards, Annuu ![]() |

I don't suggest you try harsh chemicals on your baby. It is a different story if you decide to do it for yourself. Some of our members tried Salycilic Acid and AHA Lotions, with good results, but you have to read and follow specs. and directions from a physician.
