Oh my gosh it's nice to find you guys!

After some searching, I finally figured out what this bumpy rash is on my 3yo's upper arms is! So now my question is, how do I get rid of it? It looks awful, especially now since the weather here in Georgia is warming up and she's wearing short sleeves, it's very noticeable. I really hate when other moms point and say "Oh! What's her rash from??" Like it's something weird and contagious.
I've tried scrubbing (gently) with a bath pouf but she hates that. Lotions don't help at all and it's a fight to get lotion on her anyway. I'm not big on prescription meds, our family uses them as little as possible...so I'd prefer not to go that route. Any thoughts?

i have no idea what you can do! my suggestion would be a lotion because it doesn't seem fair to scrub a 3 year old. and yea, i agree medz are dangerous for a toddler. but maybe if it is too hard to get a lotion on her, wait a few years and then try to treat it. (in the meantime, you could research what lotion you could use. there is a awesome thread on this site by turquoise about glycolic acid. good luck!)

For a three year old, you should not use an AHA that is too strong. Maybe try a mild AHA at a very low strength, say 5% lactate (lactate is the sour ingredient in yogurt).

I agree scrubbing is not at all fun for parents or children, and I don't think it is necessary for young skin.

Our 4 year old boy had KP on his arms. I'm a Pharmacist, so I developed a recipe containing lactic acid/sodium lactate and vitamins A, C & E in an avocado oil cream base. I am pleased to say that the cream cleared up his kp in less than a week, and it hasn't come back. Fingers crossed!

All the best,

Annuu

Thank you for your reply!

Can you tell me what an AHA is? Are there products with the 5% that I can buy over the counter or is it more of a home remedy?

Sure, AHA stands for alpha hydroxy acid. Examples are lactic/lactate (milk), citric (citrus), tartaric (grapes), glycolic (sugarcane).

When AHAs are applied to the skin, they help the skin to shed the upper dead layer that blocks the hair openings, which improves kp.

Products containing 5% lactic acid (as ammonium lactate) are available as the brand (LacHydrin 5%) or as the cheaper generic store brands. Check out your local Pharmacy, I am sure they will be able to help you.

I wouldn't buy the higher 12% strength, it might be too strong for your daughter's skin.

If you don't have any joy, let me know, I might be able to send you some of the cream that I made for our little fella.

Good luck!

Annuu

Hi, I'm new here. I have a 2 year old with bad KP (dermatologist said worst case he'd ever seen). We've tried everything from steriod cream to Eucerin Plus. Nothing works. He gets terrible bumps that get hard and look like pimples and he itches them. Can you please tell me how you made your remedy for your son? We are desperate.

A doctor suggested Laticare and it isn't as thick as some of the other ones. I had to ask WalMart to order it for me. The doctor, dermo, also had KP.

Hi:

I developed and made a cream (called Lacteem) for our 4-year old son's kp. It worked very well!

Because Lacteem worked so well for our son's kp, and does not contain any nasty steroids, I would be interested to know if it also helps other children.

If any parents would like to contact me, (******************) I would be pleased to send out some trial quantities of Lacteem (I have 50gram jars available). The only thing I would ask is for your feedback on the cream. Thanks!

Kind regards,

Annuu

Question seeks help!! (please read)

I am 16 and have had KP (on my arms, face, stomache and thighs) since i can remember. I feel embarrassed by my skin. People see it as a sort of contagious rash or achne. In middle school i wore long sleeve shirts and light jackets everyday. This was hard to do considering i live in the Mew Mexico where the weather is dry and hot. Although i have accepted my skin now, i still wish for my KP to be gone.
Most of my family has had KP to some extent and have yet to find a treatment. I would be more than willing to give your home remedy a shot. I have read that you have already given out all your samples and are waiting for feed back before making more. This is unfortunate, but as soon as you make more please let me know.
