Just getting started

Greetings! I am new to this board as of minutes ago. Today our ped finally gave us a name for the condition my 12 month old is suffering from - kp! It covers primairly his left cheek, both arms to the wrists, and the tops of his thighs.
The doc seemed less than concerned, offering little remedy except trying various creams or lotions, avoiding dyes, scents, etc.

Can anyone give me a more difinitive starting ground - what is working for your little one? Can you exfoliate this stuff? Do scents and dyes exacerbate kp?

Thanks for any info. you can provide as I begin what looks to be a long road ahead.

Kelli

Hi Kelli,
I'm a mom who has been using some natural oils on my daughters skin. Right now we are using coconut oil and the results with this have been very good. I must add that we have also had really good results with sweet almond oil and jojoba. Also used otc epilpt, tea tree oil cream, and for her face (eyebrows) its differin gel, but my daughter is a teen. Right now, its only coconut oil and the differin gel.
I also make our own soap (melt and pour and cold process). One of these days I hope to perfect a shampoo bar but haven't done that one yet, too busy. These are just some of the things that have worked for us but many others here have had some good luck with other otc products. I don't know about exfoliating since your child is so young.
I also have kp and have had this since I was a teen. Fragrances and dyes don't bother my kp or my daughters. Hormones affect us both though, hers especially during growth spurts, and now her monthly cyles. I guess it would just depend on your child.
Best of luck,
Molsmom
