EmilysMom has a reputation beyond repute
Newly diagnosed daughter...Newly diagnosed me!

My youngest daughter Emily turns 3 years old today (11/14). Yesterday afternoon while visiting her pediatrician for her 3 y.o. check-up - I inquired about her bumpy upper arms, back, butt and legs...I thought perhaps she had contracted Molluscum from her 5 yr.old sister. Now we have a new skin condition to research - now I know what I have had on the backs of my arms for so many years! Apparently I have KP Alba, and I always just referred to it as "dry-skin pimples". It has never really bothered me, but I've always been curious as to why I only "broke out" on the backs of my arms and sometimes on the outside of my thighs. My case of KP probably sufaced in my early 20's - I know that I didn't have this as a child or teen. Unfortunately for Emily, she is covered with these little skin colored bumps. They started over the summer on the backs of her arms, some becoming red and mildly inflammed. Thank goodness they didn't bother her, and she never paid much attention to them. Now though, her KP is covering much of her little body, just about everywhere (no face or tummy yet). Do other Moms have little ones covered in KP? What do you suggest for a treatment? I was thinking maybe washing her with a moisturizing body wash (Dove, or Cetaphil) and using a mild loofah? I would love hearing what other Moms have tried - thanks!

Rachiesmommie has a reputation beyond repute
My 3yr old was diagnosed in September with KP. I had never heard of it before then. Rachel has had it for much longer though. We just never knew what it was. Her KP started on her right thigh at 15mos old, now that she is 3(almost 4) it is on both thighs, on her cheeks, and the back of her upper arms. The dermatologist I took her to, recommended several different things to use, but said that there was no real cure. Some kids seem to outgrow it at puberty, others get worse, while some keep it through their 20's and then there are those that never really 'grow' out of it!
I have read quite a few of the posts on here and some of the regimens that people are doing would never be suitable for a 3yr old(or at least my 3yr old)
The KP doesnt seem to bother her at this point, only once in awhile when one or two become inflamed and sorta look like a big pimple.
The dermatologist told me to try AM-Lactin, an over the counter lotion, but honestly her bumps looked much worse, not just raised skin colored bumps but really red, irritated looking, so I stopped using that.
Rachel's KP seems to be worse in the summer time. It always looks clearer during the winter months(which seems to be the opposite of alot of people??) I have been using a mild soap by Clinique that seems to be really doing a good job. Dont know if it is just a coincidence or what.
We just do not dwell on it, and she is still my pretty little girl, bumps and all! LOL. I just know it is going to be harder the older she gets.
And just for the record, I have 3 other children, none have KP, I do not have it, nor does my husband. I was told it is genetic, but I do not know where she gets hers from.

ps~I read at another post to leave the Cetaphil alone because they changed the ingredients??

Let me know what you decided to use and if it working or not =)

Good Luck~
Angie
