Help Please from Ontario Canada

Hello all,

My daughter in law just emailed me from Timmins, Ontario Canada to tell me their son has just been diagnosed with Keratosis Pilaris, but the doctor seems to be unconcerned. She has asked me for help and so I searched this site out.

My son and DIL are wanting to take him to a specialist and find out what to do. As I type this email, she is sitting at the local hospital in emerg with him. He did not go to school today and this condition is extremely upsetting to him because he is sick.

Can someone please point me in a direction....help me to help them...or help them....?

My grandson is so special and I don't want this to get out of control.

Please help.

Bev - North Bay, Ontario Canada

Hi Beverly. How bad is your grandson's KP? Having a diagnosis of KP is not the end of the world and up to half of the population have it in varying degrees. There are a lot of helpful threads on this board about how to improve the condition in young children.

The condition is a nuisance but not life threatening. Both my boys have KP on their arms and too be honest I don't even worry about it. I just tell them it is very common and no big deal. I am aware that if I did show I was very worried about it in front on them they would pick up on it and it would turn what really isn't a big deal into something they thought was a big deal. I guess what I am trying to say is your grandson will be fine and the doctor is probably right in not being worried about it. Seeing a specialist is a good idea as they can assess if any treatment is required but if the specialist says just leave it be he is probably right. All the best to you and your grandson.
