Do all of your children have KP or just one?

I am one 14 month old little boy who has a very bad case of KP. Do you think that if I have more children-- will they suffer from this too?

KP is genetic and is an autosomal dominant disorder. If you or your spouse does not have KP or is not a carrier of the gene then their is a 50% chance your subsequent children will have KP. So a second might or might not have KP. But I wouldn't avoid having children just because they will be born with an awful but cosmetic disorder. I don't like having KP but I do like being here on Earth. I sure your child and future children will learn to love life past the bumps and marks. Good luck finding something that works for your toddler.

My oldest son is 6 and does not have kp- in fact, his skin is absolutely GORGEOUS. My 8 mo old does not as of yet but I can see that he may. At least with a mom who has it, he will have someone to confide in and support him (with some coconut oil- that stuff is awesome!)

I would not let this stop me from having more children, but I was just wondering if I should expect to see this in any other children I may have. My son has such a bad case. I know right now it bothers me more than him, but I also know that in the future he will have to answer all the questions I am answering now. I get comments all the time about his skin. I feel like everyone thinks he is contagious. A lot of the time, I don't even go into what KP is b/c it is not worth it. Thankfully, all my close friends and relatives understand now and it is no big deal with them.

Hi My three year old has a bad case of KP and my 19 month old seems to have more of a minor case. What I think is wonderful is that since I have KP also I went through exactly all the things my sons will probably go through. It will be something that we work to better as a team. Alll we can do is pray that someone listens to us and comes up with an effective way to treat KP so our kids don't have to be burdened with it for so long. Children are a blessing from God and who knows maybe the KP on your child's arm will be the motivator for him to get rid of it with a cure:-)!

Blessings
Aldara

Thank you for your reply. I do pray that someone will find a cure. In fact, I pray all the time that the Lord will just heal my son. I know He can do that. Neither me nor my husband have KP....if we do it is very, very mild. I don't know what to expect as my son grows. No one in my family has ever dealt with this. I feel so blessed to have found this support group. Thanks to all of you.

I personally don't think KP is genetic, even though most doctors say it is. No one in my family, except for one cousin (that I know of) has KP. Neither one of my children (so far, and hopefully never) have any signs of KP, but my little girl did have Eczema at one point in time.
Studies show that KP affects 50-80% of all adolescents and approximately 40% of adults. And that approximately 30-50% of patients have a positive family history. But, that is almost the same % of those who have KP who we may not even know. So the fact that 30-50% of family members in our background may have it doesn't really mean anything when 40-80% of the general population does, too.
(I hope I have not totally confused everyone!)

I have three sons my oldest is 7 and he doesnt have any skins problems but my six yr old has kp on his arms and my 2 yr old has a little on his legs. Both only have bumps no redness but I havent found anything that helps yet. I believe it is hereditary but my husband doesnt have it and I dont have it but I do have eczema.

Has anyone thought about just supplementing the child with an acidophilus supplement? Majority of skin conditions in children can be fixed with a good acidophilus supplementing and supplementing with fish oils. If you address the cause now, it may cure it that simply. However in adults because we have had it for such longer amounts of time we have much more cleansing and nutrient deficiencies to deal with.

Sorry. Acidophilus is the good bacteria that sits on your gastrointestinal tract. If you don't have the good bacteria sitting there bad bacteria from food or anywhere can go into your body and sit on your intestines because the good bacteria isn't protecting it. This can lead to infestation of the bad bacteria producing all sorts of symptoms. Usually when there are skin conditions its because there are toxins being excreted through the skin. These toxins extend from the digestive tract. Bad bacteria produces its own wastes and toxins toxicating the body.

You can buy a lot of different types from the health food store, if you go to the health food store and ask for a child acidophilus supplement they will probably show you one that is in a powder form. Usually in adults, we need to cleanse our digestive tracts with antimicrobrials/bacterials but because the child is so young a good acidophilus supplement will be fine to combat the bad bacteria in the gut.

My 3-yr-old has a pretty bad case of it (since she was 7 months).

My 16-month-old does not (but he has eczema, so we didn't escape skin conditions entirely).

okay. Do you know of any side effects of this? It sounds very interesting, but I am a real scaredy cat about giving my baby boy diffferent things. I guess I just need to get some and read up on so I feel better myself. Does that sound silly?
