Questions about Carmol
Hello! I'm new to this site and have a 2.5 year old daughter w/ KP on upper arms and, maybe, her face--not sure if facial irritation is KP or AD. Our pediatric dermatologist prescribed Carmol cream for her arms -- this is a urea cream -- as we had tried lachydrin 5 with zero results. Unfortunately, the minute this stuff went on her skin she just started to scream and did not stop until I washed it off. Have not tried again as the reaction was so strong . . . has anyone else had this experience and if so, what alternatives exist? Thanks. Amy.

Carmol cream is available up to 20% urea without a prescription, so I'm betting the stuff the doc prescribed was stronger- I think it's usually 40%. I found the 20% to sting a bit at first so with the stronger stuff and young kids' delicate skin, I bet that was the problem. You could try a lower percent (it also comes in 10%) if you want to use urea.
I did see a lot of improvement with the Carmol cream, but it still wasn't great. The Bath and Body Works Eucalyptus and Spearmint lotion was my magic potion, and I know a lot of other people are having great success with coconut oil. Both are things that I doubt would irritate the skin as much as Carmol. |

Thanks! That helps a lot--it was 40%!

Splash of the Sea Bar really worked
My husband always had this crazy looking rash. Then as my sons got older it became more noticable that they had inherited this from him, as well. I never really made a fuss about it until this year when my older son was going to start high school. I took him to the doctor and he told me it was keratosis pilaris. I had never heard of anything like this in my entire life. So, we began doing research.
There is this soap at www.southerncrafter.com. It is called "Splash of the Sea" bar. It has Chamomile Essential Oil, Lavender Essential Oil and Rosemary Essential oil along with seaweed kelp & Isreali Dead Sea Salt. It comes with a loofah sponge which helps to exfoliate the top of the bumps and the oils do the rest. It does seem to dry out the skin, but we follow the treatment with their "Skin Butter Bar" which puts the oils back into the skin. This treatment has made such a BIG difference. It is a continual battle. - Mostly getting him to do the treatments every day. He is a teenager and very laxed. But, when he sees it coming back - he starts to use it again. Good luck in your search. |
