Please help- what can I do???
Hi- I am new to this website, but it looks like I finally found somewhere where people understand the emotional struggle with this kp thing.
I am a Mom of a 5 year old with kp. She has had it since she was a baby and has used eucerin, neutrogena, aveeno, and curel lotions and oils. Her skin has been a little softer with the curel ultra healing lotion but nothing takes away the bumps. Has anyone had success with any products on the market? Does cutting down on dairy products helped??? We've had many doctors tell us it is hereditary and says that there is nothing to do but moisturize with lotion. Our newest doctor says to use lotion with urea or lac-hydrin--- has anyone had great results with these? Please help, I don't want to put bad chemicals on my child!![]() |

Try Neutrogena transparent bar soap - it totally eliminated my KP when I was a kid.

No pumice on a child please. I as an adult can barely stand it.

What lotions are good for children?
I've seen other postings for BBW eucalyptus lotion... is that good for children also? Ok, maybe the pumice sponge is too rough...How about exfoliating the bumps? Is there anything that will make the skin smoother? I would rather get rid of the bumps now then worry about her getting ridiculed later at school. I don't want her to become self conscious about the bumpy skin.

kehau972: Please try the Neutrogena Transparent bar soap 1st. The Derm told my mom to use it on me. It eliminated my KP completely in 2 weeks. If that doesn't work, then using the BBW Eucalyptus lotion should be okay unless she is highly sensitive to fragrance in products. I understand you want only the best for your daughter and like any good mom, want to protect her from anything bad. Try not to fret over this too much - kids pick up on more than you realize.

Yes, and please remember, she is experiencing her mildest case of KP now. It will get worse. Try the Transparency bar, and let her be a kid. Tell her that every inch of her is beautiful. Tell her that her bumps are beauty marks.
Her skin will change so much as she ages. Try to tackle it full force (exfoliating, acids, pumice) when she is a teen. |

The thing is, it may or may not get worse. I used the Neutrogena transparent bar and it went away completely and stayed away even though I stopped using it. Then when I turned about 29, it came back for whatever reason and it was much more stubborn. All I can do is hypothesize as to why this happened and here is my theory: I was out in the sun too much when I was younger, my diet wasn't up to par so it came back. Please make sure your daughter's diet is stellar: lots of greens/fruits, whole grains over white flour products and lean meats (if possible free from hormones). Also, make sure she is getting plenty of the foods naturally high in vitamin A. Do NOT give her vitamin A supplements - it must be from food sources.

thanks for the tips. We just started using the neutrogena bar. As far as vitamin A, what are the best food sources?

I too have a young daughter, Age 2 and 6 months who was diagnosted with KP. She was given Salex to apply and we follow up with Eucerin every night. She has it on her legs, butt, arms, shoulders and cheeks.
As I've been reading some posts, I found that some people believe that someone's diet affects the condition. I was wondering, does anyone know whether peanut butter or other foods can worsen the condition. I found that when she has had a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, she gets more bumbs (almost like pimples) flaring. I don't think its a sensitivity to peanut butter because it only shows itself on the same locations as the kp site. AARRRRRRRRRRRRRHHHHHHH!!!!!! |
