New here, hi to all

Our son , who is 10 yrs old now, was born with this.

He has the little bumps all over his lower arms , upper arms, top-front of both legs, and sometimes he gets it bad on his stomache and upper chest.

His cheeks are mostly a light reddish, bumps not so bad on face.

Face gets worse in summer time, or out playing in the snow.

All of it gets worse with: weather changes, if he's sick, if he's running around a lot and gets hot.

We tried a prescription on him a few yrs ago called Loc-hydrin (sp?) and he cried and said it burned real bad.

Since then, I've been afraid to try anything on him. His pediatrician doesn't say too much about it. That's why I'm glad I found this message board today.

I just made him an appt with a derm. for April 17th for our son and would love to know what's the best med./lotion/cream for our son.

What are the derm. prescribing for this?

Neither my husband or I have this condition. Is it always hereditary?

Thanks

I have heard that it is hereditory, I have it on my upper arms quite badly but never knew what it was, just lived with it. My son (now 6) developed it when he turned 1 years old and all i have used so far was a anibiotic cream and if I use it regularly it keeps it in control and sorts out the inflamation that somtimes comes with it, I have only joined today myself and am so greatful to have found a site for this problem that not to many people in South Africa seem to know of, If anyone has advise I am waiting!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Try coconut oil. I've heard great things about its use. Make sure you get extra virgin coconut oil.

I think my biggest mistake always has been to make him wash his face with soap as I always do and have now stoped explaining to him that this will help his skin and he is quite happy with this, I also put moisturizer (my own) on his face at nights after we have taken a bath and am going to buy the dove soap for his face, but will deff give the oil a go as well thanks to all out there taking the time to answer me as I must be the only South African online here, If there are more South Africans belonging to this site, give me a call (message) as I would love to meet more local parents with this problem
