I recently (earlier today) found out my 5 month old son has keratosis pilaris. I was shocked, I just thought the rash on his head, legs and back was because of something he was allergic to! Then imagine my surprise when the doctor looked at me and said he probably got it from ME! I always thought the bumps on my face and in my hairline were blocked pores or pimples. I was in complete shock. I've never even heard of this. If I would have known sooner, I would've saved so much money on acne creams, lol!
The only thing that's really bothered me about KP is something I thought was totally unrelated to the mysterious bumps on my face and legs, dry skin. UGGGHHH!! I go through so much moisturizer. I simply thought I had extremely dry skin my entire life! What I want to know is if facials or dermabrasion would help, I mean for me, not my son, lol. I'm not bothered by it really, you can't see them unless you get reeeaaall close, but I would like smoother skin. Also, will this affect the way my son's hair grows in? Most of the bumps are on his scalp and forehead, like mine. My hair is thick, but I do have problems with my eyebrows. Thanks!!! ~Sarah |

When I was a child, Neutrogena's transparent bar soap got rid of my KP completely in 2 weeks. Unfortunately, as an adult, it doesn't seem to do a thing. It's worth a shot to use on your son, and it's a very gentle bar soap.
I don't believe the KP on his head will have any effect on his hair and it growing in, so no worries! ![]() |

also try the new Curel Ultra Healing lotion. It has really helped my 4 1/2 year old little girl--in just 2 weeks, applying it twice a day --morning and night. I'm so impressed with that stuff because I never thought those bumps would go away.

I couldn't get the photo to link, and I'm not very good with internet stuff. But.....You can see the lotion I used on my little girl at www.curel.com. There, click on "products". It will show you several bottles of different products. One of them is the "ultra healing" Curel. It's the 3rd one from the left. Blue Bottle. Hope this helps!

Arbonne has a line for children called ABC that includes body wash, lotion, oil, and even a diaper rash cream. You can go to their website www.arbonne.com and order it, but you have to have a consultant. You can use me if you don't know anyone already. Just click on "shop Online" and enter the product and quantity and you'll be taken to a screen where they ask for your ID#. Click on the new client registration link and enter my consultant #16032446. After filling out your info, you'll get your own client number and continue shopping. Hang on to the number and you can by-pass all the hoopla next time you order.
Please let me know if it helps you!Last edited by allisonsullivan; 08-07-2006 at 03:54 PM. Reason: revised ordering instructions |

I found out about my sons condition when he was 1 years old he has it in his face cheeck and jawline, I have it on my upper arms and normaly just scrub with those stones you use for your heals, it goes smooth for a while but comes right back, I found with my son (now 6) i put antibiotic cream on his skin and that seems to do the trick until I stop and then it comes back again, it doesnt bother him but it does bother me terribly and I feel so guilty as i passed it on to him,

Don't feel guilty! It's not your fault!
We're all "cursed" with KP, and it's estimated that 40-50% of the population has it! So, even if you didn't give it to him, his father may have anyway, even if he's not showing symptoms now. At least you've found something that will heal him, many people don't even have that... What kind of antibiotic cream is it? The antibiotics I tried didn't help my KP, but it might help someone else on the forum...![]() |

Like Allison, I also know of some people, including myself, who have had great luck with the ABC line on their children. I love it!

The cream is called Fucidin, may i add that i will only apply it to his face once a day and that is normaly at night, but it May not work for your child, one of the pimples on his face started to become inflamed and I started using the cream and notices that the rest of his face seemed to improve as well so I just carried on, But of course as soon as I stop it will slowly come back again, SO once again it is not a full cure, just something that I have found to work for him

KP help for little kids
You might try an ointment called Acnemyocin. My dermatologist gave me samples of this ointment when my son was diagnosed with KP when he was 8 months old. The Acnemyocin cleared the KP up within a week or so.
