Using Ammonium Lactate 12% at ped derm instruction - your thots?
OK, so we are continuing with the Ammonium Lactate cream twice a day for my daughter's cheeks. She is tolerating it well and I have to say, after about 5-6 weeks of consistent use, it DOES seem that there are signifcantly fewer large bumps with white heads AND that there are fewer bumps overall. Her cheeks stay normal color except after washed or rubbed, then they get red for a little while. Our children's hospital where she was seen is pretty highly regarded. I'm just curious what some of you may have heard why NOT to use this cream. I discontinued it for about a week or so, and there was a definite difference for the worse within a few days. Oh, we've also switched to cetaphil cream for her face moisturizer instead of the Eucerin Calming lotion - I just didn't think it would be heavy enough but after reading other's success with it, we switched. I have adult onset acne, and have used Cetaphil for years and love it. My daughter also has KP on her thighs, but it's not that bad - very random bumps and not so heavy that it's bothersome in our opinion, so we don't do anything there except to moisturize heavily once or twice daily with Aveeno baby lotion.
Thanks for your input. Lynda |

What you are using is basically a generic form of LacHydrin. If it works for your daughter that is great. It is funny how some derms suggest higher % of aha/bha's and other doctors suggest merely moisturizing with regular creams and lotions. Personally, I use milder % on my son since his face has always been so easily irritated but all kids are different. I would say as long as you are not using a steroid cream for an extended period of time then you should be fine. Good luck.
