Hi Moms and Dads,
I'm new here two. I have a 10 month old with KP. Pretty extensive on his legs and arms, and some on his face. Trying different things right now, no improvement yet. Will let everyone know if stumble upon something that really works. Any success stories out there? Especially, those of you who have been dealing with it for a couple of years? Thanks, KP Mommy, for the Curel post. Is it still working?? Thanks, everyone, for sharing! |

Yes, the Curel is still working with my daughter's KP. She's 5 now. You have to use it regularly, though. I think that the KP may be disappearing a bit--I don't know if it's due to the lotion or she's just growing out of it (if that can happen). We don't put it on her 2 x a day now, and she's getting just a little bit of bumps. Once we start putting the Curel (extra strength??) back on her, they diminish. Hope that it helps you and your child as well.
Good luck. |

No, not on her face, just....
Just on the backs of her arms, and all over her legs. Here and there, not in big patches, just kind of haphazard. Just red dots, no other redness. I just hope those horrible little dots go away and stay gone. By the way, have you tried the Curel stuff yet? Is it working for you? I certainly hope so. Like I said, I think that a buff puff at bathtime helps to exfoliate, and then to slather her up in lotion seems to help more than anything--but you do have to do it religiously or they come back. Good luck with it.

I've tried Curel. It's got really pleasant consistency and smell. I am not sure which product worked (i use it with Eucerine Plus), but something IS working. His legs seem to be clearing up.
What kind of buff puff are you using? Where do you buy it? Thank you! |

I can't remember the kind of buff puff--I think I just got a generic kind because the "Buff Puff" brand wasn't available. I think I got it at Target, but you could find them at any drug store--in the skin care aisle. It's just a rough sponge-like scrubber thingy. It's kind of a mesh material--but not hard like a loofah.

I've just written a long reply to Eecangela. I completely agree with you. I am starting to suspect that KP is allergy related. In our family it is probably MILK ALLERGY (casein protein allergy) but one of my sons also suffers egg allergy. The other one suffers soya allergy as well. And within my extended family we also have gluten allergy. My two sons didn't start getting KP until we introduced/re-introduced milk! And their KP is now subsiding again since we've had to stop all dairyfoods again due to diarrhoea and stomach cramps. We find that the following helps: hypoallergenic milk formula, Oatly with calcium and (skin moisturiser) Eucerin with urea! It is so reassuring to hear that other people have found the same! Thank you! Kind Regards "Raffles" |

Arbonne has a line for children called ABC that includes body wash, lotion, oil, and even a diaper rash cream. It's extremely mild, and made entirely of botanicals and herbs. It really helped my daughter's bumps and their adult line is helping mine. You can go to their website www.arbonne.com and order it, but you have to have a consultant. You can use me if you don't know anyone already. Just click on "Locate a Consultant" and enter "Allison Sullivan, Lexington, KY" on the left-hand side. Don't worry, YOU get to decide where it ships to. Let me know if it helps you!

I'm still a bit new to this but hey here we go - I see your comments above is from last year. I just wanted to let you know that your baby is not allergic to your breastmilk. Yor baby can however react to what you eat, as this is, in minute doses, transferred over to your baby via the breastmilk. An allergy is just that; an overreaction to very small doses of an allergenic irritant, often a protein. My youngest son is allergic to egg. His allergy is by now such (he is 3.5 yrs) that he can now touch a cake (made with egg) without any great danger although he can't eat any. As a baby however he would react to any eggs that I ate - through the breastmilk. He would also react and come out in an immediate rash from any food that we cooked in his vicinity that contained egg. This was before I obviously knew and twigged what was going on. Can you imagine our distress! Both my sons are milk allergics (and soya and egg and potatoes between them) but none of these are quite as severe as my youngest son's initial eaction to eggs. But by now even that has subsided substantially. What has all this with KP to do? I suspect quite a lot. A number of my family members (extended family, relatives and so on) have KP. Quite a few of us also suffer from food allergies, gluten intolerance, other food intolerances, other allergies including hayfever, asthma, ezcema and geographical tongue (bet you have'nt heard of that one before..). Personally my KP started at around age 1yrs or earlier. According to my mother I was breastfed until approx 9 months and started to be introduced to other foods (including cows milk) at around 6 mths. I've got quite an ugly KP. At age 35 I tried stopping all dairyfoods and suddenly my lifelong IBS cleared - completely. My KP hasn't though but I am a lot smoother!! My two sons however never had KP as small children - not a bit even. They were both diagnosed with cows milk allergy at age 9mths (my oldest son) and 6mths (my youngest son). My youngest son would react if I occasionally eat some cheese through my breastmilk even! So they have'n had any intake of dairyproducts until approx 12mths ago (my oldest) and 6mths ago (my youngest). And my oldest son has now KP on his upper arms and face. And my youngest son (who has only ever had a taste now and then) has started developpinging a few bumps on his upper arms. However we've had to stop dairyproducts again as my oldest boy has re-developped his milk allergy/intolerance and started getting diarrhea and stomach cramps again. I'm thus hoping that his KP will subside again. I've found that for us the hypoallergenic milk formula Pepti-Junior has been a life saver (and I hope nobody uses soya/soy formula as 40% of all milk allergy sufferers are - or become - allergic to soya as well!). Organic food seem to help as well. Possibly as pesticides are suspected of interfering with your immune system. We also use skin lotions containing urea (if their skins aren't to scratched). It would be really interesting to know more about your experiences! All the best Regards "Raffles" |

Hi Allison
Geographical tongue is the medical term for a tongue with lesions, red patches and loss of the papillae on the tongue in a pattern that looks a lot like a map - thus the name! It appears to run in families with allergies and may be allergy related. It isn't serious but can be very uncomfortable - your tongue can get very irritated and sore when you eat or drink something that your tongue reacts to. Different types of fruits are common triggers. Some medics say that the more hooked you are on a food the more likely you are to have a hidden reaction/intolerance/sensitivity towards it! I can be completely addicted to cheese but I do suffer afterwards!! By the way does your sister use any medication such as Lactase to help with her lactose intolerance? We're all reacting to the casein/milk protein in my family so the only thing that help us are antihistamins. (and not eating it in the first place) Kind Regards "Raffles" |

No Geographical tongue in my family, but we have connected frenulum (the underneath side is attached all the way to the tip). Funny how we have tongue conditions AND KP. My sister drinks Silk, and eats Tums. That's about it, though I know she does keep an OTC medicine on hand, because Lactose gives her an upset GI tract.
