why the mystery about KP?

Why is it that the medical profession seem to offer no/little constructive advice about KP? Iam a 42 yr old Mother of two boys (6yrs & 2yrs) and have been a KP sufferer all of my life. Only yesterday, whilst having a facial, did the beauty therapist put a label on this cruel skin condition for me when she massaged my shoulders and upper arms.
Past doctor's visits have resulted in me being told that it's a dry skin condition, it's weight related(!?) and it's hereditory (true, but still no one put a label on it for me!)
Sadly, my 6yr old son is a sufferer and it's only a matter of time I'm sure before my 2yr old sons shows the signs.
I've spent a lifetime covering up in the hot weather, I don't want the same for my boys. I would love to hear from anyone who could offer me any tried and tested natural remedies for me to try on my boys.
many thanks.

well amlactin 12% works "sometimes" but not good to use it everyday... you can get it over the counter it cost around 15$. other times i just try to use a good moiturizer which does not make the bumps go away, but does seem to make the skin smoother...

There are some decent products at dermstore.com

Hi. I am new to this site. I have suffered with KP my who life (I am 35) and my 3 children have it tool.

I've tried Amlactin, but the odor is hard to tolerate. Dermstore.com has a product called Glytone which contains glycolic acid. It comes in a body wash and lotion and can be purchased as a set. It works well provided you don't have any open wounds (or else it really stings).

good luck.

I've used all different types of soaps and have settled on Caress. That's all I buy, my kp is definitely not as bad as it used to be.

I've had some success with Caress soap. My kp has been reduced, skin is softer as well.

Caress soap in the peach colored package has worked well for me. My skin is definitely smoother.
