New Member - my 4 year old son and I have Keratosis Pilaris
Hi from Down Under! I just discovered this site last night and am both relieved and excited. I have had Keratosis Pilaris for as long as I can remember (I'm 29). My four year old son has had the condition on his upper arms since the age of 1 and over the last 2 years I have noticed the same symptoms on his cheeks and eyebrows. His cheeks (closest to ears) are always red with a scattering of little bumps but his eyebrows appear worse. As he is fair skinned it is always more noticeable and the second half of the hair on his eyebrows are barely there. Doctors and Naturopaths in the past have diagnosed his condition as 'eczema' or 'just dry skin' After spending lots of money on different sorts of 'concoctions' and major diet changes, nothing has made any dramatic improvements. So, I am very happy to know that this site exists and that I can find out what is working or not working with children with similar cases. Although I have not had my son diagnosed (I live in small seaside town- no Dermatologist here!) I am pretty sure going by pictures on the net that he is suffering from KP Rubra Faceii and Ulerythema Ophryogenes with Keratosis Pilaris on his upper arms. For those of you out there who have children with this as well, do you notice that the redness varies throughout the day? When my son wakes up in the morning it almost looks like he doesn't have the condition on his face. Within minutes though the redness appears. I have also noticed that any kind of pressure aggravates his eyebrows and cheeks. Just the simple act of putting on a t-shirt makes his face (especially the eyebrows) look much redder and it is especially so when he is very active. When I thought he had eczema, the Naturopath put him on a Chinese Herbal Medicine called 'Honeysuckle an Forsythia'. It actually reduced the 'pimples' somewhat but the redness remained. Anyways, I look forward to getting some new ideas and hopefully sharing what works or doesn't work for me. Cheers for now Lalla
