Hello all!
Just found this sight after doing some research re:KP. Dh has it but has never had it treated. My almost 2yo son has what appears to be a pretty extensive case of it. He has bumps all over his arms and bumps with redness on his cheeks. We just vacationed in Las Vegas and the dry, hot air made it so much worse with bumps developing all over his torso and legs as well, with his cheeks becoming very, very flushed. Back home now, it's better but not gone. I am going to talk with his ped next month at his well-baby c/u and maybe ask for a derm referral. Being so young, I'm hesitant to use anything harsh on him. His skin does seem quite sensitive though I've not noticed any real allergic reactions. I've read the posts and seen lots of products mentioned but not much in the way of how applied, how much, when, etc. Any info regarding treating a young child would be greatly appreciated. Laila |

In the same boat - 2.5 year old
Hi - My son was officially diagnosed at 2 with KP. It is only now beginning to show a little on his face, but his arms, legs and buttocks are horrendous. Just covered with it.
His pediatrician referred him to a dermatologist, but with few helpful suggestions. He basically said "no cure, it's for life", as everyone here on the boards has been told. He did mention the AmLactin cream, but we tried it for a month with very little change in my son's KP. He also suggested we use a humidifier in his room - to constantly keep the skin moist. So, that's what we're trying next. Good luck - I hope you are able to get in with a dermatologist. We are actually going back in a month so I can get a letter stating what it is that my son has - I'm sure preschool will need it explained that it isn't a contagious rash of some sort! Cindy |

Let me say, I can truly sympathize with you.. My son got a pretty bad case of KP on his cheeks when he was 7.. A little older than your son..
Anyway, went to a pediatric derm and was prescribed Erythromycin 2 percent gel, applied once a day at bedtime.. In about 2 to 3 months, his Kp was pretty much gone.. This is an acne med and it dries up the KP.. Ask your derm about it. His KP will be return again in the winter months as usual.. But we will be armed! Good Luck, Chris |
