glad it's back
Well, Thanks Mel for getting a new forum up and running. I was going through withdrawal
I know I was a "newbie' poster on the old forum right before it went down, but i hope to post more. I'm still working on finding the right treatment for my now 5 year old daughter(Samantha) to get rid of her "aliens" as she calls them. Right now I have her scrubbing 3x/week with a shea butter scrub made with turbinado sugar and some other moisturizing goodies. We're still using MSM Lotion. I'm hoping with the warmer weather coming (Of course it snowed here in MA last night so who knows!), and she can wear short sleeves that it will clear up for a while.MolsMom - I'd love your input for "non-chemical" ideas. She's still so little that I'm staying away from any AHA/BHA treatments. She has no redness, just the bumps. Andrea |

Hi Samisoaps,
Mol uses sweet almond oil alot, she also uses epilpt lotion, either one, at night only. Her arms are looking really good . We also used this tea tree cream but we are out of that now. Mol had bumps too when she was little, only on the arms, but basically it only flared up during growth spurts. This is why it took so long to diagnose her. Her doctor thought this was a "hormone" thing and usually cortisone cream for a few days did the job. We have gone the dermatologist route but in our case, spent a lot of $, and the derm just kept wanting to add more things. The best results have been just getting her off the prescriptions (except for the kp on the face) and using otc or carrier oils on her arms. She is a teen now and with acne involved also, dear me, it is sometimes a struggle with the kp and acne when it comes to her face. If you are interested in a more natural route and if you have some sweet almond, shea butter, etc that you use in your soapmaking, it may be worth a try on your daughters arms. I also make soap and cp soap seems to help a lot also. Best of luck. I hope the sugar scrubs are helping. Molsmom |

Ahh Sweet Almond! I've got a few gallons and it never occurred to me. Poor little thing, she's the only one in the family that we know of to have KP. They don't bother her too much right now. Actually I "diagnosed" her after finding this board last year. Her pediatrician said it was dry skin, may or may not ever go away and just keep moisturizing. (Well, atleast the may or may not go away was right). I make everything EXCEPT for CP soap right now (We're moving to our own HOUSE!! in Missouri from MA in June so I'll be able to start CP, no room in a 3br apt with 5 kids!). If you have any great moisturizing CP recipes, feel free to email the to me, I have most oils/butters/waxes

Hi Sami,
I will get together some of my recipes and email them to you this week. I make mine up at the lye calc. at majestic mountain sage and then always superfat them with shea, sweet almond, etc. Castor oil is wonderful also . I've never made a sugar scrub or salt scrub but have heard great things about them. When you move and get ready for a cp batch feel free to holler if you need any help or have questions. Best wishes, Molsmom |

is sweet almond oil a better moisturizer then lotion??...is the oil absorbent?? because the greasy feeling is very bothersome to me...i moisturize right before i go to bed, so i dont want all the oil to get all over the sheets, but if it works really well, i'm willing to try it.

Thanks molsmom!
I will definately get in touch with you when I'm ready. I LOVE the feel of CP. A friend sent me a bar of her Goats N Oats made with goatsmilk, shea and other "goodies". I've been using it on Samantha. It does make her skin "less dry" and I think the oatmeal helps with "srubbing" too (Plus she loves the smell so that helps!)

Sweet almond oil is a wonderful emollient, its in liquid form, and can usually be found at drug stores, health food stores/vitamin shops, or places that sell soapmaking ingredients. Its added to lotions, creams, soaps, and from the sounds of it to sugar and salt scrubs also. A little goes a long way. If you would put too much on, it will be rather greasy. It absorbs into the skin easily but if you put too much on you may not like that with your sheets. If you do try this, remember that you only need a little bit

mol alternates what she uses on her arms. she will use sweet almond oil some nights (using it straight, with nothing else), some nights she will use epilpt lotion instead. we have never tried using this with anything else.
best wishes with your kp. molsmom |

My Daughter had signs of KP I guess around 1 yr. old. I knew she was going to get KP due to the fact both my husband and myself have it, only my husband could care less about his. He has it on the backs of his arms, butt, and upper theighs. My daughter now is 2 yrs. old (Feb. 2003) and the KP is just about gone (maybe 2 or 3 bumps on each outer theigh). I'm just waiting for it to reappear. I remember being in my early teens (12 or 13yrs.) and having it on my lower cheeks, it was not bad I just felt little tiny bumps. I did in fact pick them off and they never came back. Then I only had it on the backs of my arms and I do remember that totally going away as well to only later return, as did a tiny bit more KP show up on my legs above my knees and then the whole fronts of my legs were covered after pregnancy. So it will disappear and reappear w/ time. Kim
