that should be the question. why are the cells getting stuck? surely some derm or physician or biologist can answer. creams just seem like at most, a half-assed solution. how deep in the skin does the problem start? if we could get a few answers, maybe we can figure it out for ourselves. let's make the cells not get stuck! ahh, i'm sorry. i just think there's solutions out there. i'd like to know em. |

so, people get acne because hormones trigger too much sebum to be produced. But because the excess sebum is blocking the openings of the ducts, both cells and sebum accumulate, forming a plug. which would probably explain women getting KP around pregnancy because of hormones. so what causes KP? |

I agree! This disease seems minute compared to all the numerous deadly diesases out there for which we do have cures for / or are approaches cures for. Why can't a scientists or field of researches not figure this one out? ....do they feel this particular skin disease does not warrant such research or do they just not have funding to do it? Has anyone ever closely analized/researched this disease to a large-scale degree? Does anyone know? How can we get doctors to fund research on this and get a cure? Any suggestions? As you can tell, I have KP and am fed up w/ it. I've been living w/ it since I"ve been about 11 --It started on my cheeks and on my arms. During my teen years, it dissapated from my cheeks and has gotten worse on my arms and thighs . For the past two years, it seems to have gotten even worse...I hate it. It makes me feel very self conscious and disfigured -I know that sounds very exaggerated, but that is how I feel. I'm very self-conscious about it and desparately would like to get rid of it (especially since I'm getting married in a few months and am wearing a sleeveless gown). Right now my dermatolgists has me on an ecema (spell?) cream -- which has improved it slightly; however, I think the LacHydrin and retin A may work better. P.s. I've been all over the web looking for sites such as this one and am grateful to have found it - thanks for making this site possible! |

It's all about money! Why find a cure? Think of all the money in office visits alone the derms would lose, not to mention all the drug companies. |

yeah, i think someone would have to start an actual organization that brings awareness to this problem and raises funds for it. i actually wrote a letter to a dr. involved in skin disease research and he told me that he wasn't aware of any research going on for kp. |
