How Does KP progress?
I just found out my 17 Month old daughter has KP. Neither my husband nor I have it, but I do have other skin problems. She has had it everywhere but her face. This may be a stupid question, but does KP always show up in the same place over the years, or will it find new places to come about? I also am very happy to find this web site and would appreciate any advice as to how to deal with this in childhood, from a very worried mom. Thanks. |

Although I realize that everyone has different feelings and reactions relating to KP or any other cosmetic (visible) skin disorders, I would suggest the following, as someone who has had KP since early chidlhood - I would say the main thing is to make sure that you don't make your child worry about having KP - help her to deal with it by gladly offering helpful treatments, but make sure she feels as much as possible that she is still completely normal and beautiful regardless of the skin condition. Don't remind her unnecessarily of the KP - don't let it run her life or her thoughts and feelings. Don't mention her KP unless she brings up the topic - don't let her think it is something you notice much or she might become afraid that it is the first thing that everyone else notices. Encourage her to wear short sleeves, shorts, etc. (i.e. not to hide the KP) but be understanding if she would rather hide it. I know it's a lot of "dont's", but hopefylly at least some of this advice can be helpful to you in helping your daughter feel comfortable with herself in her own skin. |

I have had KP since childhood on my upper arms. As I got older and had a child my KP got worse. My 2 year old son has started develop KP on his arms also. In answer to your question, I think that KP can show up anywhere on your body and I also think that most info about KP diminishing with age is bull. Mine has only gotten worse with age. I think our only hope for our children is thru medical research and maybe this website. Just don't let onto your children that KP is anything to be ashamed of. |

I absolutely agree - whatever you do, do not let on to your children that KP is anything to be ashamed of - the feelings of embarrassment often associated with KP can really torment, especially young people who even with normal skin are so often so worried about their appearance, and can cause so much emotional pain that it can take lots of itme and energy to get over. |
