Ulerythema Ophryogenes

I believe that I have suffered with ulerythema ophryogenes to some extent all my life, but I've never seen a docter about it. Sometimes it seems to be a lot wose than others, but one thing always remains constant - one eyebrow is always redder than the other. A few years ago I went to see a doctor regarding a problem I encountered with my scalp and he diagnosed seborrhoeic dermatitis (pretty non-descipt then!) and perscribed Nizoral shampoo. This shampoo cleard my scalp up in a metter of weeks. A few days ago I noticed that my scalp was very sore so I went out and purchased some more shampoo. I also notices that my ulerythema ophryogenes had got worse and wondered if there is any connection between the two. I have decided to use this shampoo to gently wash my eyebrows with as well as my scalp. I have not noticed any imporvement with my scalp or my eyebrows yet, but I'll keep you posted. Has anybody tried this?

Hi,
I had also bumps on my scalp.I take 1 mg Finasteride for that, every day (Propecia,Proscar : hair loss medication) and after few month the bumps on my forehead went down.No idea if this helps for everyone with u.o.
The hair loss of the eyebrows is also a bit better.
But this medication does not improve the redness of the face or the eyebrows.
I did laser treatment for that and it improved the redness very much, but flushing is still heavy when it comes out.
So soon I'll start an accutane treatment(isotretinoin) which is supposed to clear up the whole condition after a long term usage.
All the best!

John,

Are you saying that Propecia regrows lost hair in the eyebrows? Or just that it has cut down on the rate of loss for you? I have very little hair in my eyebrows, since i hit my teens. Very embarrassing! I use Rogaine, and was hoping for some new growth in my eyebrows with no luck.

The eyebrows do regrow very slow. like before, but the amount of hairs that fall out is not as high as before.
Women are not allowed to take this medication!

It figures! I guess i continue to draw them on and pretend they look natural! Wonder if i can talk a hair transplant specialist into transplanting some eyebrows for me? People who have eyebrows have no idea what it's like to not have them! Anyhow, good luck with your regimen, John.

Hi Mary,

you won't be able to take the propecia pills but you can use it directly on the eyebrows.

Propecia contains Finasteride. This lowers the concentration of dihydrotestosterone ,which makes the hair follicle weak and producing no more hair.

In the USA there's a brand new "liquid hair medication" that is made of Finasteride,Arginine...
People who use it write that there's new hair growing just after few weeks.

I can't remember the exact name for that and I don't live in the USA.I have to search for it.
Maybe you can also look for it.
It's expensive but better than a hair transplantation.

All the best,
John
