I hate KP & all the treatments under the sun!
I have been reading comments on this message board periodically and there are way too many posts to read them all - not to mention so many different remedies and hypothesis. So far I have read to scrub & exfoliate, not to scrub (it makes it worse), to use lotions, urea cream, oxy, sulfer soap, salysilic acid, retin-a, lac-hydrin, get laser surgery, microdermabrasion, steriods, try to sweet a lot, also I have read that I may have a kidney and or liver problem, take vitamin A, flaxseed oil and use everyother lotion, potion and remedy under the sun!! I know everyone is different & different things work for different people but this is way too confusing. What do I try & where do I start? I'm covered in red bumps - I'm always thinking about my skin. Always getting nervous when someone suggests any activity where I'll be forced to wear shorts or a bathing suit in fear of showing my yucking bumpy skin. I'm sick of my skin feeling like sandpaper and looking like I have a rash from head to toe. Wouldn't it be nice if there were some actual medical research & studies that proved what will actually give results! I want to wear shorts and tank tops and sleeveless dresses and have people only notice me & not the F'ing bumpy rash! I don't think its really too much to ask! KP SUCKS!! ![]() sorry just needed to vent! |

no need to be sorry about venting, me! we can all sympathize with what you're going through. i pretty much have KP all over my body and i've had it my whole life. and like you, i can't even imagine what it would be like to be able to wear shorts and short sleeves or a bathing suit without giving it a second thought. i haven't bared my legs in public since i was a kid and i'm 31 now so you can do the math. and even though it's frustrating trying to find a regimen that works for you, my advice is to keep trying because nobody else is going to do it for you. especially not your friendly neighbourhood dermatologist! i wish you all the best ![]() |

A Real Solution
I was traumatized for years because I had KP everywhere including my butt! I would stare at magazine models with perfectly smooth skin which only confirmed my suspicions that I was gross and weird. When I confided to my boyfriend about how I felt about my skin, he said, "Those photos are airbrushed. Everyone's got pimples on their butt!" I didn't even know at the time what it was. My Solution: Yes, the creams help some. Yes, exfoliating SOFTLY helps a little. Yes, doctors help too. But I have KP and KP will not go away. So the MOST important solution for me has been accepting that I have bumps on my arms, legs, and butt and wear those damn sleeveless shirts and shorts! No one is perfect. One more thing: If I find myself looking too long at "perfect" models in magazines and wishing I was like them, I have to quit looking at those magazines for a while. |
