MSM - Roll Call

As for me, I started with Sundown brand MSM, switched to OptiMSM a couple weeks ago. Right now, I am taking 9 1000mg capsules, or a bit over 1 teaspoon a day, with the intent of increasing. I don't think it's doing anything, but will keep at it until my 1000 pills are gone. |

Hello. I've been checking in on this site for several months (never wrote in though), and have tried various regimines, including MSM capsules. Currently I'm having good success with a tailored routine (started about 1 month ago) that includes scrubbing with a stiff brush, which I personally believe is accomplishing the most out of everything in the routine. I hope the good results will continue and even improve over time. My routine is: -- 3 MSM capsules in morning + Vit C + multi vitamin) -- Flax seed oil (just recently upped it to 2 tblsp) --At night, scrub with brush (I use "Kiss My Face Olive Oil" soap -- but perhaps you can use what you prefer -- I have not tried sulfur soap). By the way, I don't get to this scrubbing every night, but it seems to be okay. -- Morning and night, I apply my favorite lotion ("Kiss My Face Olive Oil for Sensitive Skin"...sometimes mixed with a dollop of "Neutrogena Clear Pore with Salicylic Acid" . I have just started alternating this with the use of a fragrace-free MSM lotion from "Born Again" purchased in a health food store ($6.75)The KP sites are nice and smooth. However, upon very close inspection, really only after scrubbing when it is irritated, I can see they are not completely "gone" (yet!), though they don't look anything like they used to. And the redness is still there, although reduced to about half of what it used to be. In my opinion, the MSM capsules taken internally are a help, because I think I see that there is a reduction in the KP areas that I am not treating topically with anything. The overall reduction of KP inflammation has also helped reduce the urge to pick. A note: when this does happen though, with the only occasional bump here and there, I immediatley wash and apply tea tree oil or an anti-bacterial ointment. This helps reduce scarring, possibility of infection, and decreases healing time. Before I did all this stuff mentioned above, I had a relatively bad case of KP and had tried pretty much everything else. One other routine did help tremendously, but I think it was only good short-term. Over the summer I ordered "Diprosalic" (spelling?) as a liquid (not cream or ointment) (got it I think from Pharmint.com without a prescription). I mixed a few drops with my fave lotion and applied every night. The combination of that and a mild tan achieved what was for me, amazing results (the KP areas looked and felt super smooth, and there was no redness or much evidence of any scarring). However, the Diprosalic is a topical steroid, I think, which never seems to hold up in the long run, doesn't have a great reputation health-wise over long term, and in my case, the KP returned pretty vigorously with cessation of the Diprosalic.(although I wasn't doing anything much else about the KP then, like scrubbing). So...this might be a good "on-the-spot" short term solution for special events, etc., but I personally wouldn't recommend it long term. I drink as much water as I can during the day. Perhaps this is helpful. My diet is good. I get a bit of exercise. Well, apologies for the long message. I hope this is helpful. Good luck to everyone; I believe we can manage or even conquer this thing! And thanks for the great site. |

Kim, I always read your posts because you are honest and intellegent. Your regimen has worked the best so far. I was wondering if you could describe your KP or lack there of. For example if it were summer in your part of the country would you go sleeveless? Also do you still need Oxy? Thanks for all yor input. My Kp is much better. I plan to use sulfur soap for life. Happy New Year ! Nicky |

Just like "good routine" I used to use Diprosalic. It definitely gives you amazing results with the reduction of the bumps and redness - like within a few days - but it is quite messy and not very safe to use for the long haul. I stopped using it around 2 months ago and now I scrub with the sulfur soap, moisturize with urea and also apply OptiMSM sulfur lotion and a 3% salicylic acid medication to my arms. They look and feel even better than they did with the Dipro so I am very pleased. I also take around 6000 mg of Lignisul MSM in capsule form daily. I am pretty sure that the pills aren't really doing that much for my skin since the KP on my legs has changed very little, but I'm going to keep taking them because they have helped a great deal with the joint pain that I suffer in my knee! |

Hi Nicky! My arms are not bad at all, hardly any KP there. My problem was my legs. It just spread all over and I still use the sulfur soap too, for life!! I still have light dots(not red)maybe a freckle color. I think if I were to get a tan the light freckle marks would not bother me too much. I used the Oxy for 2 mos. straight. It helped so much w/ lightening the red dots but realized that it was not going to lighten them anymore. I did wear shorts last summer ( a few times) and I think I will feel better about it because I think they have gotten better looking. Well, good luck to you. Kim |
