kp is beautiful

To all my fellow KP brothers and sisters.. I ask you - who wants ordinary boring skin anyway? I myself love to feel the varying texture and gaze upon the wondrous array of scarlet mountains. We being half of the population are supposably 'cursed' by this condition. On the contrary, we are blessed. It is not unreasonable to regard this as any other genetic trait - like brown or blonde hair - well I have red speckled skin; and thank you for noticing. I say we should flaunt it - create a new definition of ‘beautiful’. I have distributed my eye-catching portrait to Calvin Klein and influential bigwig’s alike. I am confident that my randomly crimson kissed complexion will indeed be the new face on vogue. Many people have advised against it, but I know they're just salivating with envy. Now excuse me while I return to formulating an ingenious KP encouraging solution that will soon have me in the limelight!!! Ah ha ha ha ha (evil laugh)... ;-) |

KP, self acceptance, and perceptions.

Lol! At last a bit of humour (or humor, to my American cousins!) on this board. A little bit over the top perhaps, but I think your message brings to light something no-one has really discussed before - the need for self-acceptance. Lets face it, KP is undoubtedly hard to get rid of. The frustration on this board tells me so. We do know that it is a genetic thing we'd rather not have, an affliction that rivals other genetic 'flaws' people the world over would rather not have, such as: Big ears A big nose Male pattern baldness Chubby thighs Chubby Arms Big ears Sticking out ears Small squinty eyes Tallness Shortness Big/Small feet/hands Uncontrollable hair Dislikable hair colour (color) Boring flat hair Need I go on? Such genetic things are special - they signify uniqueness and the bond between us and generations before us. And the ones I have listed, like KP, are largely cosmetic. THE AFFLICTION THAT HURTS US IS NOT KP - IT IS OUR DOWNBEAT PERCEPTION OF IT. So, I throw it out to the board - what strategies have people come up with to increase their self-acceptance? I like researching my family history, and enjoy looking at pictures of my ancestors with physical features that have passed on to me. I feel part of a chain, not a uniquely freakish individual - and NO-ONE should feel that way. Does anyone else employ techniques to increase the acceptance of who we are, and how we got here? It might be more beneficial than scrubbing 2 hours a day or spending a fortune on cosmetics! Bye! |

Logic.

PROBLEM: KP. ISSUE: I desire to get rid of it! SOLUTION 1: Find a cure and get rid of it. PROBABILITY OF THIS: Low, as the board's frustrations suggest. SOLUTION 2: Get rid of the desire to get rid of it. METHOD: 1. Self-acceptance. 2. Shifting attention from a harmless affliction to more important things: making people that are special to me happy; working for charities concerned with human and animal rights and the environment; working toward academic, career or travel ambitions. Often, if we are concerned with things outside of ourselves, and we work to do good, good things can often come to us. Perhaps such good things would be better than the feeling of being rid of KP. Our desire, and our fruitless activity, to rid ourselves of KP is energy that can be harvested and invested in the outside world and in more mature personal goals. |
