Adult Acne

As if KP wasn't enough, I also seem to have recently developed a never-ending case of facial acne. Yippee. It pops up mainly on both sides of my cheek bone and under my chin. I never even had it this bad as a teenager. It never develops into a blackhead... it tends to just stay red and bumpy. I've tried Oxy-10, as well as my sulfur soap... but to no avail. Does anyone have any positive results with either over-the-counter medicine, or those mail-order things like "Proactive" or "Reversion" or even brand names like "MD Forte." Any advice would be much appreciated. |

I have heard some good things about that Proactiv. Right now my daughter is using Differin gel (prescription) for her acne and its helped with both acne and kp on her face. The first 3-4 weeks using the gel was horrible though. It makes you break out even worse, but then all of a sudden this med just makes the zits disappear. A doctor warned us ahead of time so at least we knew what was going to happen. |

I never had acne until I started using the sulfur soap, Now pimples keep popping up on my cheeks! I don't get it because sulfur soap is supposed to be for acne sufferers in the first place, even though we all use it for kp. I wonder if yours started then, too. |

Just wanted to let you know that a great gentle cleaser for the face is Cetaphil. I have been using it for years & it leaves your skin super soft & it seems to keep my face very clear. I like the kind in the bottle rather than the bar soap.Hope this helps! |

Something to consider is an allergic reaction. In my experience, red bumps that don't come to a head are usually a reaction to something I am putting on my face, and they heal on their own once I stop using whatever caused them. If you notice ANY sign of scarring, I encourage you to see your dermatologist right away, as it may be the type of acne that is treatable with drugs. Good luck. Terri |

the reason why i think u get more acne from using sulphur soap is because sulphur is anti-bacterial, and it removes the usual harmless bacteria on ur face, leaving ur face more vulnerable to the ones causing acne. it's not just sulphur soap, it's other face washes too. the same is true for ur hands, that's why they say that those anti-bacterial soaps for hands aren't good. |
