The Disappearance Of KP

Okay, from everything I've read from dermatologists and medical experts, kp should eventually lessen and fade away with age, mainly past adolescence. And I know most people who might have had their kp disappear from something or other won't necessarily be hanging around message boards such as this one anymore, I would still like to know if anyone out there had ONCE had kp, and now are completely void of it. I have not seen one post that says, "Hey guys, don't worry, I used to have kp pretty bad, but it just gradually went away and now I'm clear as can be. So just hang in there, and someday, it'll get better." Are what the doctors telling us about it possibly just going away just to appease us? Give us hope? Because as good as that may make us feel about the future, I don't like being lied to. If this is something for life, I would like to know that, get on with it, and find some other thing wrong with me to dwell on.
Sorry if this sounds like a bitter rant, it's just depressing coming to this board for months and seeing the same hopes rise and fall, rise and fall.

I agree with hopeful. I am 33 and have seen no change whatsoever since I was 13. I also have never noticed the "worse in the winter, better in the summer" phenomenon that seems to be gospel among doctors.

Well, like all of you, I've read and heard that it (meaning KP) gets better with age. I think it's a crock, honestly. I first began noticing KP at 8. Now that I'm 28, I have it worse than ever! It's absolutely horrible! It's everywhere! Well, my mom is 54 and has had it since her childhood, too. Guess what? She still has it. It's not as bad as mine, but I don't believe it ever has been. She has it all over her legs and thighs, arms, and buttocks, still. She has learned to live with it, but I didn't inherit her cheery disposition about our condition....only the condition itself. LOL Oh well. Maybe someone else will have a better tale to tell.

hi. i am 31 and i've had a pretty severe case of KP since birth. when i was a teenager a dermatologist told me that it would go away around the age of 25. WHATEVER!! it has not improved one bit. it hasn't gotten (is that a real word?? - it looks bad) worse either. also, doctors alway say that it gets better in the summer and worse in the winter. NOT TRUE FOR ME!! i live in a place that is very dry and freezing cold in the winter and extremely hot and humid in the summer and i've never seen an ounce of improvement during the summer months. sadly, i think the doctors are just spewing out routine answers to our questions. they really have no idea, i think. that's why it's up to us to try and get this under control ourselves. MOISTURIZE AND SCRUB!!

Well, I don't think there is a cure for KP and why would they make a cure for it, it's just not important enough to them. They have not even made a cure for acne yet, just products to keep it under contol because they make too much money from people like us.Thats what I think this board is here for, we need to find a way to keep it under control. I have had good results w/ Sulfur Soap but it's not for everyone just as some acne products are not for everyone. I always had a touch of KP since the age of 13 or so. It got really bad after I had my Daughter almost 2 yrs ago. I will be 30 in about 6 mos. and from what I know alot of people here are not teenagers. I do not think this is going to go away w/ age. Just like they say you grow out of acne, you don't. Many people (older) still have breakouts. I still get pimples here and there and I wonder when it will stop???There is no way around this but perhaps a way through. It sucks so bad, I know.

I had KP since college and the dermatologist said it would go away, I'm 40 and it even spreads from my fore arms down to my lower arms.My older sis who's 43 just had hers. My dad is 67 and still has them, they never go away. My sister uses a 12% lactic acid and lightly scrubs her arms -- seems like her condition is improving a lot.
