The lotions job is to soften and moisturize (which) it does. This softens the clogged pores and improves overall skin tone, but that is only part of the equation. #1 is a method of exfoliation be it sal.acid/hard brushes/ureas or other exfol creams. #2 is a antibacterial cleanser to clean the bacteria in the clogged pores be it oxy/olux foam etc...and #3 is a good lotion that won't irritate your skin and or allergies (also a sensitive skin soap like dove in the shower). According to my derm KP is a skin allergy. My KP itches a little here and there now and then like on my arms sometimes and buttocks and my jawline sometimes not usually on the legs, anyways I recently started taking Zyrtec and it has really done some work on the redness and the red dots from my opened pores. Of course laying out in the sun also can help mask this. I only got a couple tester pills of the Zyrtec from my derm but plan on getting more to make sure it does what I think it is doing. I also think hormone balance helps KP. I went back on Ortho Tricyclen recently which I used to take back before I got KP. I stopped taking my pill back in '99 started getting KP within a month or two, got prego, it got worse, got nasal allergies for the first time that year as well. Now 3 years later I have two daughters, nasal allergies and skin allergies (KP). KP got worse about 2-3 months after each daughter I think again because my hormones were shifting back into ovulation mode. ANYways I will stop talking now.

I take Zyrtec for allergies, switched from Claritin 3 months ago. My KP hasn't changed at all since taking Zyrtec. My known allergies are an outdoor pollen producer that i can't think of right now and dust mites. The dust mites allergy is why i switched from Claritin to Zyrtec.

Yeah at the time the Zyrtec was helping me with the itching I started having, but I realized that the itching and redness was really being caused by the cream Tazorac that I had been using for KP. This lotion is very strong and it made my skin itch. I eased up on the Tazorac and the itching stopped.

Glad to hear your itching has been resolved. I think we all have probably experienced itching at times, and it can drive a person CRAZY! I find that if i don't get enough fluids i itch, so i drink a lot of water!
