My 3 yo son has KP.... will it go away when he gets older and

My 3 yo son has KP.... will it go away when he gets older and grows more hair on his body or will it get worse? I took him to the doctor and he said he had keratosis pilaris and the doctor didn't act like it was a big deal but I worry about it for him as he grows up. Right now he has it mostly on his out side of his thighs and backs of his upper arms but you can also feel lots of smaller ones all over his chest and back. Is this going to get worse as he gets older or will he out grow it. I keep reading different things on different sites. I've been using Alveno bath wash and it helps a little. His legs and body felt smoother but I've noticed them getting worse since its been colder. Any advise? |

Hi jean i am Sara-Jane and i am 12. If you have a look at this site like i have done over the past couple of weeks i think that you will get a lot of advice. I have also had it all my life from when i was about 1-2 and as i am 12 it hurts when people call you names and stuff. I wouldn't worry about your son because it will so go away. My GP says that mine will go in about 6 months to 2 years so your son will soon get rid of it. If you want any further help send me an E-Mail at sexy1790@hotmail.com because i think that i will be able to help more as i am nearer your sons age! (more or less any way) |

Make sure you moisturize your son well, on a daily basis and hopefully that will help with his bumps. On whether this will go away when he gets older, that is a question you won't know for awhile. You might want to check any ratings for the Aveeno products and lotions you are using at http://www.cosmeticcop.com/ Most store soaps are actually detergent based soaps and aren't really the best for your skin, especially during the winter months when skin is more prone to being dry. I find this site very helpful when buying skin care products or when I need to look up an ingredient I am unsure of. Best of luck. |

Take a look at this board, there have been quite a few good suggestions on how to get rid of KP. I myself am using MSM pills and sulfur/SA soap. I have seen a great improvement. I still have it, but to be truthful, even if it doesn't get any better than this I'd be extremely happy with the results. If I continue with this and get myself into a more disciplined regime about doing it I'm sure I can get it to go away completely. Your sons skin is worse in winter because it's drier. Try using a good moisturizer, I'm using St.Ives Collagen Elastin and it's really good. There is also St. Ives Intensive Therapy or something which is probably even better. No, it does not necessarily go away with age, my mom is in her mid-fifties and she still has it. Good Luck, I'm sure with a mom like you looking for a cure your son will never have to worry about KP. |

from what i've read, a lot of youngers' kp are associated with allergies, so maybe have him checked for allergies. if nothing is done(no treatments, no change in diet or no nothing), i doubt kp actually gets better on its own. once it starts manifesting itself it will even get worse and spread. if you're lucky, it won't spread, but if u ask anyone here, it gets worse with time, not better. |

I think that children who develop KP in the very early stages of life (between 1 and 3 years old) have a very good chance of it chearling up when puberty hits. For people like myself who developed KP in the puberty stage, we are not so lucky. |

I'm afraid lots of people on this site have had KP since they were born (like me) and it hasn't gone away at puberty. I don't know if my KP has got worse over the years or if I've got increasingly fed up with it, but I have the feeling that it looks more and more dreadful as the years go by. |
