Sarah Jane,
Do not let this skin problem stop you from wearing shorts, short sleeved shirts, etc... I am 27 years old and have had KP since I was very little. In my opinion, I have kind of a bad case of it. I have never let it stop me from wearing clothes that show my KP. I would rather be happy and wear clothes that I like rather than cover up to hide my KP from people. I know it is frustrating to have this, but try not to let it get you down.

hi honey! just to let you know, i can relate to your situation. i've had KP since birth and i am now 31. i know this must seem really old to you but i remember being your age like it was yesterday. i think if you browse this board you will find a lot of good advice for keeping this thing under control. even if you just buy some sulfur soap with 3% salicylic acid (helps unclog those bumps) and wash with it and don't do anything else, i think you will see a big improvement. you have to buy it through the internet, though, at sulfursoap.com. maybe your parents could order it for you? make sure your mom or dad or maybe even your grandmother helps you do some research on this thing. don't listen to the doctors when they tell you that there isn't anything you can do. they told me that when i was your age and it's not true! just think, you are so young - you can get this thing under control now and life a long and happy life. :-)

Hi Sara sweetie, i'm a 31 year old male and i also have KP. You are far from alone with your KP issue, it is estimated that infact, 50% of the world's population suffer's from Keratosis Pilaris. Sevarity varies among people, but at least half the world has it to some extent. You are going through puberty now, o will be very soon, and since you've had it all your life, i think with your body's hormone changes with puberty, that you have a chance to have it clear up totally over the next few year's, or at the very least, some clearing. I developed KP at the age you are now and i'm 31 year's old now and i still have it. But i think that you having it since you were a baby, that you might be one of the lucky ones....don't give up hope, and remember that there are 3 Billion people who can relate to you, myself included.

Sarah - that is my darling niece's name I am 36 yrs old and I was about your age when I first noticed that I had bumps on my arms. I did not know why I had them but at the time my mom only knew that she had them until she was about 18-20 and they went away. I picked at them constantly and it only got worse. I didn't seek medical help until this year!! I am happy for you that you have the internet and all of this information so that you can tackle it now while you are young and before you get scars from picking at yourself! I tried all kinds of things over the last couple of decades. Scrubs, aloe, body washes, tea tree oil. It always helped but never made me perfectly smooth. I am only now just finding out more and I am already seeing a difference in my skin from using MSM, sulphur soap w/salicylic acid and body clear lotion. I also use a homemade sugar scrub once or twice a week that helps a lot. It's olive oil, raw sugar, tea tree oil and aloe. Makes my skin feel great! Good luck and don't be depressed about it. Be proud of your beauty - inside and out!!!
