Why does it spread?
I remember having KP starting around puberty and it was only on my upper arms. Now, it is on my upper and lower arms, my back and my thighs. I have also seen where others have had it spread. Why would that be? Anyone read anything on this? |

My Kp spread after I had my daughter(about 4 mos. or so). My Doctor said it was hormones and to wait a full year because thats how long it takes to overcome the pregnancy, to get it out of your system. It has gotten better w/ time but I think that had to do w/ the Sulfur Soap. |

my sister's kp has been unaffected by the birth of her daughter. It has neither improved nor gotten worse. She has a pretty light case of kp by the way. |

hey there, how long after ur child's birth did it start to spread? Her daughter is 3, almost 4 now, and her kp is still very light. so in her case, change in hormones is not a factor. let's face it, when it comes to kp, our guess is just as good as the doctors'. |

Hi Leslie, I wish I knew the answer to that question also. I'm lucky, mine has only been on the upper arms, and its mild. My daughter, she had this on her upper arms and not sure what the heck happened but it spread terribly down to her wrists and then also on her face and tops of legs. Hers is under control now but I tell ya, it freaked us out how fast this happened. |

sweet almond oil or epilpt lotion at night, plus she also uses soap that I make (all veggie) which is superfatted. i took her off what a dermatologist prescribed for her kp and since starting doing things this way, her skin looks much better. on occasion she will use a tea tree oil cream. basically, this is improving by just moisturizing. she uses a differen gel prescribed by our family doctor for her acne and kp on her face. her kp was in her eyebrows and hairline and thats looking better also. |

It makes sense that picking, which I also do, would make it worse in the spot that is picked but not to make it spread. Mine is on my back now, in places where my fingers don't go and can't even reach! If it was an infection spreading, maybe, but I don't see how picking would make it spread. I am buying the nutrition theory more. But who knows. |

This is just a theory, but it could be possible that increases in KP during pregnancy or after childbirth could be due to nutritional deficiency. A growing foetus takes a huge amount of nutrition from its mother and this would continue after childbirth through breast feeding. There seems to be a lot of anecdotal evidence that KP could be a form of profound nutritional deficiency. Several people seem to have cured their symptoms through supplementing with MSM and also Co-Q10 and perhaps Vitamin A as well. Everyone's nutritional needs are different and this might explain why not everyone responds to the same supplements. I think this might explain the increase in KP symptoms after childbirth though. |

Rick, that makes a lot of sense. Mine didn't spread due to pregnancy or childbirth but it does make sense that it could be worsened through poor nutrition. The only thing that would still baffle me about my particular case is that my nutrition has actually improved over the years (NEVER ate a vegetable as a child other than carrots or artichokes) but yet my KP seems to have spread to my back, legs and forearms. I just started MSM and have ordered 8 other supplements that were recommended by Dr. Perricone for skin health and weight management and using sulphur soap. Also, what about weight? I am about 40 lbs over weight and my primary Dr., though he didn't really know what my KP was, said that he had mostly seen it on heavier people. Maybe I need EVEN MORE vitamin A to nourish my 5'10 207 lb body??? Sorry so long! ![]() |

Leslie, If you do some searching on weight, we have basically determined that KP isn't connected to weight. There are many of us who are underweight or of normal weight. I personally have gained and lost weight and my KP actually appears to be better at higher weights, which i think is connected to the intake of fats. Anyhow, good luck with your new dietary supplements. Hope you find something that will help! |

I just wish my Dr. knew more! I did get him to refer me to a dermatologist, who said I had allergies to dyes and fragrances in body and laundry products. He gave me Retin-A and told me to replace all my products. Still have it! |
