THERE IS NO CURE

I think we should try and support each other emotionnally instead of
frantically searching for a "cure", and stop coming down so hard on those of us who
feel depressed and have a hard time accepting this condition. I know it's hard when
you're still hoping for a miracle and somebody posts something that is "negative" but the
truth is THERE IS NO CURE. I've had kp since I was 15. I'm 35 now and
it's finally spread to my face. I've tried everything under the sun (including some of
the stuff posted here). The plain truth is THERE IS NO CURE! We're just going broke chasing
some pipe dream of perfect skin most of us haven't had since we were 2 years old. It's not about finding
the next miracle soap or magic potion that's gonna cure us anymore. It's about learning to live with
a condition that is not lifethreatening but that is emotionnally devastating in the worst way. Most derms
take a look at you and shoo you out, saying that it's "only cosmetic", live with it, next patient. The truth
is, we live in a society that obsesses on looks and it's hard to cope and you have doctors that trivialize what you're going
through. I feel like **** today. I hope tomorrow will be better. But I'm putting a stop to this fantasy of finding a cure. By the
time it happens, if it ever does, I'll be old and gray and too weak to give a **** anyway. It's the hand we've been
dealt and it's unfair and it hurts and that's it. Let's stop the name-calling and the insults and all that mess. It's not getting us
anywhere cause the truth of the matter is, it's part of our lives and it's here to stay. Good luck to you all

I don't agree. i'm here to find what's worked for others and see if i can find something that will work for me too. I'm not just here to remind myself that I have Kp and that I have to accept and live with it. My dad used to have kp when he was younger and now his skin is perfect. That means there is "something" that can make it go away permanently. i'm not suggesting that we will find the "cure", but in the meantime we certainly can't lose faith. Negativity will only harm you. Why don't u start by repeating to urself EVERY NIGHT that one day your skin will be perfect or that the treatment that u're following is going to work for you? You might laugh now, but trust me, there is such a thing as a placebo effect. I cannot stress this enough, the mind is a very very very POWERFUL thing!!!!

look, i'm sure you are just trying to help, but if you decided to accept this ****, then fine, but i know for a fact that there is something that works for everyone and we are here to support each other in finding that something. We really don't need any negativity like that.

Hi Lisa, i'm Lisa too hehe..i didn't ever realise til now that there was another Lisa on here..when i saw ur topic i thought that that Bryan had posted pretending to be me haha. I understand how you feel about there not being a cure and I think it is good to try and accept it and try and live a normal life..but if only it wasn't so hard! I've had KP for most of my life and I am 18. I believe that the body is a machine, it has been designed and our KP is just a hiccup in the system and we can some how fix it.

I second that.I have seen these posts far too many times, and they are really getting old. There is a good number of people on here who have been able to entirely rid themselves of kp, and I can guarantee that I will do the same, or die trying. Negative posts like these do nothing but make people even more determined.

I can understand your frustration, i have KP over my entire body, and it's been hard, i'm a 31 year old man. But maybe if you change your perspective a little...just think....what if researchers for small pox or polio took on the same attitude as you have? No one is talking about curing a genetic defect, but it is certainly a basic skin problem that can be controlled...at least this is what i believe. Chin up....never give up.

Thanks for that and i totally agree! we have to THINK positive! It's all in our mind...we can control our body, we can make our body do watever we want if we tried hard enough! I dunno if this is true or not or just some rumour, but remember that guy who was locked in a freezer? He froze to death. But apprently the freezer wasn't even on! The mind is powerful and perhaps we can learn to take control of our body. Good luck everyone...

Oh and another thing, u said that ur father's cleared up, do u know if he did anything in particular during that time, that wouldve helped?
