have been so glad to find this site. I am 25 and have KP for as long as I can remember but did not know what it was.It only really affects my upper arms and legs much less but the arms are pretty horrible. They also itch quite badly sometimes. I only plucked up the courage to visit a doctor recently, he prescribed antibiotics which have done nothing. Doing my own research I found this site and wow! I am not a freak! Other people have this too and knowing that comforts me. Since reading the postings I have begun taking MSM 2 x 750 a day and my sulfersoap arrived yesterday. I've been taking the MSM for nearly a week but have not found a great improvement. I should have known better than to raise my hopes. Have also begun using oxy at night combined with eucerin (have been using this for years, it keeps it from getting too bad). Anyhow I should give it time I suppose and accept that my arms will never be my best feature. With three weeks to christmas and new year parties I went shopping for an outfit but get so frustrated so much stuff is sleeveless and the things with sleeves are not really what I would love to wear. I dream of wearing a dress one day or a halterneck top but I guess this may be an unrealistic wish. Sun helps lots but here in the uk there isn't a lot of that around. Does anyone think we'll ever find something that really really helps. Sorry to be a bit of a gloom but after a day of standing in changing rooms (why oh why do they use halogen lights which make my arms look 100 x worse?)and STILL no party outfit I'm in a bit of a grump. Thanks for the support from everyone, it really helps. |

i think the key to this MSM thing is finding the right dosage that works for you. "me" & "vjcajun" saw amazing results right away but i seem to remember reading, and if i'm mistaken about this please let me know, that their cases were described as moderate in some spots and worse in others. it seems to me that for those people who have had KP since birth, and those who have quite severe cases of it, it would only make sense that the required dosage would be a little bit higher and the time taken before seeing results a little bit longer. if KP is related to a lack of sulfur in the body, or the inability to properly breakdown or use sulfur in the body, then maybe the people with really bad cases are much more sulfur deficient than those with only mild KP, or none at all. if this is the case, 1 or 2 1000mg pills a day would understandably not work for someone with a really severe case in the same way it would work for someone else. i think the fact that some people are detoxing and seeing results and some people are not is an indicator of this. it seems to me that once you have reached the level of sulfur intake that is appropriate for you, your body will let you know by detoxing and then you can level off and maybe, HOPEFULLY!, see some results. i've read that you can safely go up to between 4000mg and 8000mg a day. this may seem extreme because of the number, or at least it did to me, but mg aren't very big! i started off by taking 2 1000mg a day and a week later i moved up to 3. i have still had no side effects whatsoever and no results. personally, i am going to slowly move up until i reach the dosage that is appropriate for me, without going crazy. hopefully it will work. does anyone have any thoughts on this? sorry for the length. ![]() |

Hi! I'm 16 and from Australia. I can't ever remember not having KP- my parents won't tell me when I developed it, probably because they always pretend they can't see it to try and raise my self esteem! People on this website seem to have different types of KP or KP affecting different parts of the body, affecting some parts of the body worse than others. My KP is also bad on my arms with just a little on my upper legs. I haven't yet ordered MSM (but I plan too!), but we have all realised on this forum that some things work for some people, and some things only work for others... another clue to getting results is patience, as some people find results from treatment within the first week, and for others it can take several months! So my advice to you is just to stick with it for a while, and see what happens. |

Hi helen, i just thought you might like to try a product that my gp recomended. it's called acqueous cream and you can get it in all pharmacies behind the counter. I was only diagnosed about a fortnight ago and i went out and brought a stiff brush and this cream. Everyday i scrub myself with the brush in the bath sometimes with sulfur soap (no bubble bath! get something like a moisturising wash)and then apply the cream when i get out. I've also been taking msm and i am noticing a difference (if only slight) in my skin and my hair. I too was prescribed anti biotics then a steroid cream and then an antibactirial wash before i got properly diagnosed so i know where you're coming from. x |

hey~ my KP are servere! They are everywhere! my thighs, legs, arms, chest!!!!! I've been on MSM for a week or so. I started at 2-1000mg pills a day, then went up to 3-1000mg a day. Right now, I'm doing 4-1000mg per day. I have not see any side-effects but no improvement... >< It is kind of dissapointing. I know this takes time but.. I can't believe that some people here are so lucky that they have msm for a few days and their KP are all gone... Anyways, I'll keep on doing MSM and hope to see results. Thanks, love, student~ |

Re: for UK Helen & everyone - been researching more on sulfur

i did a little more research this morning on sulfur. every website i hit indicated that some people may see results in a few days while others wouldn't see any for weeks or maybe a month or two. it varies from person to person, depending on how sulfur deficient you are and how severe the condition you are trying to treat is. i also read several times today that if people are taking sulfur for overall maintenance and health, then 1000 or 2000/day should suffice. however, if someone is looking to take sulfur for therapeutic/medicinal purposes, the dosage would be much higher. the sites stated that taking anywhere from 2000mg to 10/12000 mg/day usually gives people the results they are looking for. as most of you have probably read somewhere, they say to start off at around 1000mg per day, then keep increasing every 5 days or so until you start to see/feel the difference in your body. once you are achieving the results you want, then you stay at that level and maintain. also, everywhere i read stated that there are virtually no negative side effects to taking sulfur and it is pretty much impossble to overdose. sulfur has the same level of toxicity as water and whatever your body doesn't need will be flushed out of your sytem after 12 hours. it has proven to be very beneficial to those with skin disorders, joint/muscle pain, arthritis, injuries/scar tissue, asthma.... the list goes on. i was going to try and post some of the articles i found but they are really easy to find. just type in "benefits of sulfur" or "sulfur and skin disorders" in your search engine and a whole bunch of them pop up. they pretty much all have the same information. good luck everyone :-) |
