As far as areas, it probably has more to do with climate as dry climates tend to make KP worse than humid climates, but it is genetic and can strike any group anywhere.

I think maybe this a percentage we are told by our Doctors, I know that is what my Doctor told me. So I guess thay are going be the amount of people they see w/ KP. To be honest I have been told about the 50% by more then one Doctor and I know I have read it in many places.

I know it doesn't mention any surveys done, etc, to make that statement seem more believable, but every website seems to say it.
Also- have a look at what some other people's replied to your message (explaining how some areas of the world have more KP than other areas).

I just thought I'd add that knowing that KP affects up to 50% of the population is becoming more believable by the second!! At school today (while waiting for my year 12 report), I noticed that an extra two of my friends have it, plus the librarian!!! Many people hide it, except I tend to notice it, since I have become very aware of people's skin lately....
