What about infants?

My daughter was just diagnosed w/ KP. She is only 11 months old. Her cheeks are affected the most, though her forearms and legs have a few bumps. Any suggestions for treatment at this age? Anyone know if having them on her cheeks at this age means that she will always have them there?

My son is 2 1/2 and has KP on both face and thighs. He was diagnosed at 2 with it and we were just told to use Amlactin 12% once a day on the affected areas. On the face it varies from day to day, sometimes it is hardly noticeable other times he looks like he has rosacia. It is very noticeable on his thighs and pretty much has stayed the same, so that could mean the lotion is helping to keep it at bay, I'm hoping. I want to meet more parents here to talk about it, I am really hoping it is just aggravated by his youth and all the rubbing and stuff toddlers get into. I am curious to hear from the teens on this board if they had it on their face from infancy on and if it ever went away. Also, my son is a bit on the hairy side (very blonde, but still hairy) so that does not help! I have KP on my arms only, my hubby has it very mildly on arms and shoulders. I do try and loofah the areas every other nite when he takes a bath and I use Cetaphil to gently wash his face on off bath nites. I hope your daughter's is a mild case, I know it is hard as a parent to wonder how this will affect them later!!

My doctor told me my girls just had extreme dry skin at that age. I know now that it was KP. Her suggestion to treat the "dry skin" was to bathe them only every other day, not to make the water any hotter than necessary, use the mildest soap, and lotion them up twice a day. Despite her misdiagnosis, that system worked to keep the bumps in check. You might ask about the sulphur soap, I don't know of any reason she couldn't use it.

Try using a buff puf every day in the bath instead of a sponge or flannel gently scrubing the affected area. moisturise thoughley after your child is dry. I have benn doing this on my 3 year old for a week and already the KP is reducing and her skin is much softer. Goodluck

your case sounds very similiar to my case. my son has kp on his cheeks and thighs. he is 10 months old, symptoms started at 3 months old. like you, i like to see what teens that had kp since infant are doing. im hoping he will get better as time goes, we will see. i also have it on my arms, like you but my husband doesnt, he is lucky. do you do anything for your kp? well i was glad to read your story, i made me feel that i was not alone in this.

take care
