Laser treatment (to Rick)

Thanks for the information on lasers Rick. I live in NZ and have had 1 pulse dyed laser treatment with some success. I am keen to find the nearest user of the new v-beam lasers but have not received a reply from the makers of the lasers. No-one in NZ that I know of has this technology. Have you ever used the pulse dyed laser and if so did you find the v-beam a lot more effective. Also I have heard the treatment is no so expensive as the pulse dyed laser - did you find this? I have Keratosis pilaris atrophicans faciei (variant atrophderma vermiculata) and ulerythema ophryogenes also. Thanks for your info. Anne |

Ann, there isn't one type of laser that will work for everyone and some people are particularly resistant (myself included). Have you seen this link? http://www.angelfire.com/journal2/sadhelp/kp.htm It mentions one of the few clinical studies which has tested pulse dye lasers on people with KP-associated facial redness. The longer pulse dye lasers (V-Star and V-Beam) can produce similar or better results, and can produce less purpura since they can use longer pulses. You should look for the posts by John on this forum from a while ago. He has had successful V-Star treatment which has significantly reduced his facial redness - although no laser completely eliminates all flushing. As far as cost goes, it just depends who you see. V-Beam and V-Star are newer so you would probably pay more, but if they work for you, who cares? |

Thanks for your reply Rick. I have had quite a bit of contact with Pete Lex in the past (creater of the website mentioned) and it was Pete that first drew my attention to laser treatment. For me the pulsed dyed treatment was successful however I imagine 4-5 more treatments would be needed to gain full effect. Since the cost is $2000 (NZ) per treatment plus airfares and husband is a student I thought it best to look into other options before committing myself to another treatment. |
