I've been reading this message board for the last couple weeks and have been amazed at how many other people have
KP like I do. I'm 37 years old and have had
KP all my life, and some of my other family members have it, too. When I was in college, a Dr. gave me a prescription of 10% Retin-A (very strong) and it caused significant peeling. Even though it was painful for a few days and left my skin raw, I have to say the results were remarkable. I had noticable scarring before, but since that time I really haven't had much scarring. I still have bumps, and they are worse when I'm not diligent about taking care of my skin, but I don't seem to have any real scarring to speak of. It's amazing to think that treatment has benefitted me for 18 years.
I'm also amazed to read of situations where people have stopped dating someone because of
KP, or someone makes a comment about another's condition. I've never had anything like that happen to me. All I can think is that those people must be terribly shallow and not really worth your time anyway. If it's family making you feel self-conscious, be upfront and tell them about it in a kind way. They are just being insensitive and are ignorant of
KP.
Never let anyone else dictate to you how you feel about yourself. That is the one thing you have control over in life. Love yourself - inside and out!
