BLUSHING and Kp

Hi everybody I hope you're all doing great and having a wonderful day. I love my Life but I am Having many problems today I skipped many classes in my school because there's some kids who target me for my red face. And everybody tells me to stay strong and to not let it annoy you. Many of these things help, but the reality of it for me anyways, Is that I am 15 I am a teenager. There probably 1 of the most fun times of your life but can also be a rollercoaster of negative emotions mixed in their. I just want to enjoy life and Thank god for every beauiful day that goes by. But also a a Teen I want to have lot's of fun with friends, family, but even then my own good friends and my own grandparents point out my red face. This is such a hard disease to cope with(keratosis pilaris atrophicans) because it's not like acne or a bad hair day, or being overweight. Because most adults and peers realize that it's a senstive issue for teens(acne on the face). But the thing with the red face is they never would think tht it's this type of condition. They mistake it for a sunburn, or a fever. And that;s really hard explaining it to everybody making up excuses while they say look he's going even redder. The thing that really bugs me is that some girls I know say it's a real turnoff. I just am Lost And i love talking on thsi board because every single 1 of you help eachother and that's what God loves everybody to help and treat eachother as they'd wish to be treated. Please somebody please jsut answer me this 2 questions It will help me research Kp sooo.. much more.1) what does parameters mean how can you understand what parameters you have to have to signifigantly reduce redness on the cheeks and nose for kp? 2) and after laser treatments will sun tanning make your face go back to as red as it was previous to laser treatments? Please anybody respond it would be such a great help God bless you all. And If anybody on this whole board needs to ask me any question about kp even though I am young I study Kp daily! Please feel free to ask Me I would be glad 2 help anybody who wants it. God bless, Mark |

Hi Mark..it sounds like today is not going too well for you...sorry that you are so upset about your red face! My son is 14 and he also has the very red face and ears...we went to three different dermatologists last year...one said he had ulerythema ooporogynes(however you spell it!!!),,and the other 2 said he didnt...he tried all the creams...retinaA,cortisone,metrogel,and then finally the last dermatologist said that he just had red skin made redder by his age..and that it would probably improve as he got older(but after reading all of these posts I'm not sure if that is true). Anyway the Dr. did order him to start using a vitamin c serum( you put it on your face once a day) called Primacy 20 it cost $90 a bottle but lasts a long time...and he also wanted him to start taking nicomide(prescription vitamin b complex..used to treat the reddness of acne)...At first he took the pills once a day, then he imcreased to 2 times a day...I thought that my sons face looked less red, but it was near summertime and the reddness usually improves at that time of year anyway...My son was going to camp for a week and didnt want to take the medicine and ointments with him..He decided that it wasnt working anyway...So to make a long story short he nolonger uses any creams or takes any pills..I think his skin is still red, but it doesnt bother him anymore. When people ask him why his skin is red he used to get upset...now he tells them "I have a skin condition that makes it red!!"....people that know him dont bother asking him anymore...my point of this whole post is that you have got to try and not let the red cheeks affect everything that you do..sure it is a pain, but I believe that this laser will eventually help with the red cheeks.. |

I have had KP since I was born, and I also blush very easy. After reading your post, you made it seem like they were related. Are they? I remember getting picked on in school too for blushing very easy. I think that is the reason I was a very shy person, the slightest attention to my in school cause me to blush really bad. My attitude on things is a little bit different now, so I guess it doesn't bother me anymore and I am not as shy. anyhoo, i just wanted to know if blushing and KP are related. Thanks, Steve |

I do not have KPRF so my face looks perfectly normal - my KP is on the arms - until I exercise. I turn beet red and look as if I'm gonna die even if I am not feeling overly exerted. I also turn red when mad or embarrased. I never related this to KP until going on this board. Don't ask me why, but this disorder that affects our folicles and keratin production seems to affect the capillaries in our faces as well. So I guess the answer to your question is yes, for whatever reason, they seem to be related. |
