My results
Originally posted by from the KP trenches
Well, I've been reading this board for almost six weeks now and have tried almost all remedies posted! I've been holding off on posting my own results because I wanted to make sure they were real and not just wishful thinking or temporary improvement. But now, I think I can safely tell you that my regimine is working tremendously well. Here's what worked for me: First four weeks: Scrubbed with Pernox and sulfer soap twice a day, apply SA3% and then Carmol 20 (I tried both the wart remover mixed with the Carmol 20 a la Byrne's Mom's formula and then I used Keralyte Gel followed by Carmol 20 and both worked equally well). I used a damp loofah to help the lotion penetrate and then followed by Lubriderm Advanced Therapy for Extra-Dry Skin. I noticed almost immediate softening of my skin but then after about 2 weeks I had a minor outbreak again. But, unlike in the past, the bumps went away withink a week and no new ones have come since. At about the 4 week mark, I had very few bumps, no new bumps, and the ones I had were much softer. At that point, I switched my evening regimine to scrubbing with sulfur soap & Pernox and then applying Oxy 10 followed by Lubriderm and scrubbing with loofah. My morning regmine remains washing with Pernox/sulfur soap and then applying the Keralyt followed by Carmol 20. I am in the process of cutting back to every other day because my skin is just now starting to get a bit dry. On the days when I cut back, I just scrub in the carmol 20 followed by Lubriderm using the damp loofah - I think the loofah makes a big difference. Anyway, I hope this hasn't been incredibly long-winded, I just really wanted to share my promising result since I owe it to all those who posted their efforts on the board. Thank you all!! I still have some bumps and some scarring but, although I am hopeful that I will continue to see improvement, I feel like I could even live with what I have now compared to what it was like before. My skin feels soft and my husband touches it and makes nice comments. By the way, my KP is on my arms (the right much worse than the left for some reason) and my upper thighs. I would describe my case as mild to moderate. The KP on my arms has responded to treatment much quicker and better than that on my thighs. I am 28 and have had these bumps since childhood. I too have experienced the insulting dismissal from many a dermatologist and the tokin prescription for LacHydrin (which is insanely expensive when insurance won't cover it!). So, this board is a God send. Thank you all!!! |

thank you for your post. Do you think washing twice a day..with sulfur soap AND pernox..is too drying? remeber this is a dry skin condition. I have been washing once a day and choosing the soap or the pernox..(whatever works better by trial and error)followed by the SA/carmol 20 mix..I have had a stubborn case..which has improved tremendously. |

Well, in general I am probably duplicating ingredients with Pernox and sulfur soap and I am going to stop using the Pernox when I run out. And yes, I actually don't always wash in the AM if my skin feels at all dry. My skin has only just now begun to feel a little dry and so I am going to cut down on the most powerful stuff - the drying lotions (Keralyt and Oxy) -- and keep moisturizing like heck! |

Glad you have found success - it sounds like you are using about the same regimen that I use. Have you noticed any change in the scars? I had some raised white scars and they have only responded to the Pernox in getting flatter and smoother, but I can't seem to improve the discoloration. If you find anything that works on them, make sure you let me know. |
