Interesting experiment that may have some answers

My boyfriend is currently reading a book at the moment which discusses a diet that matches what humans were designed to eat like berries, meat, vegetables etc. It discusses bad foods that some people's bodies can't handle well like butter, bread, milk etc. I think that some of us are more senstive to modern processed food and our bodies can't cope with them. I decided to epxperiment a little to see if this theory rang true.
To give you some background info, I am maybe half a stone overweight, quite fit but could exercise more and I eat fairly well, by that I mean the current GP recommened diet of bread, chicken, fish, milk, veg and fruit etc.with a little of the bad stuff every now and then. I decided to omit from my diet as per suggested in this book, all processed foods(eg microwaveable dinners etc)milk and wheat. My new diet consisted off fruit, berries, vegetables, lots of fish, turkey and chicken and homemade soups with lentils. I ate a varied and tasty diet, admittedly it took a bit more effort and I had to learn to use spices and herbs to flavour my meals rather than ready-made processed sauces. The one thing I could not give up was yoghurt, so I ate low-fat natural yoghurt, mixed in nuts, raisins, dried banana and cinnamon to taste. After one month of this I was lighter but what a shocker...no KP! I was stunned, it had drastically dimished.More arms were totally free of it for the first time in years and my legs while not totally free were getting there! The redness and irrated look had gone, no bumps, red marks faded or fading. So then I re-introduced the processed foods, milk, wheat etc back into my diet.I have to say I felt my energy levels drop when I did this and my stomach a bit crampy....and alas the kp started to come back.
I never consumed that much wheat or dairy to be concerned but I think if like me you are sensitive to it then even small amounts do you know good. So here I am two months on and back with my KP. I thought I'd share my little experiement with everyone, I'm not suggesting everyone immediately resolve never to eat wheat or dairy every again but it's food for thought-pardon the pun! As for me well as soon as I can, I'm starting to phase out all my bad foods again slowly but surely. It's not fair that I react this way to foods and others don't but I badly want that smooth red-free skin back again...it'll take some getting used to but I'll do it! Good, luck to all out there

I totally agree with you. KP has a lot to do with what you eat. Last month, I altered my diet from a lot of cheese, milk, ice cream, creamy pasta, softdrinks and heaps of other junk foods to no dairy at all, lots of fruits, vegetables and water, as well as vitamins & mineral supplements recommended by my nutritionist, and I noticed great improvement not just on my skin and energy levels. However, for the past few weeks, I've been having a lot of ice cream and junks and my KP has come back! But at least now I know what's driving my KP..

To anyone how has tried altering their diet. When you said your KP was gone - do you mean it was really gone!! Did the areas effected with KP look like the normal skin on other parts of your body? Please be specific. I'll try it if it really works. Thanks! p.s. I'd also like to know the name of this book.

The book is The Paleo Diet, I think there are a few on this so I assume that all of them are the same thing. Any book store would have a book on it if you asked.
There was no scarring, still some small areas of redness which were fading as I guess the irritant substances in my body decreased.I believe that redness associated with KP is an allergic reaction of some sort, sometimes mine would look really red and rashy and other times just a bit pinky and blotchy...if that's not a reaction to something I don't know what is!
I don't think the book makes any reference to KP specifically but I must return to the diet now....if it means only eating dairy once a month for the rest of my life then so be it!!!on the up side I'm sure I'll benefit health wise in other ways. I hope this helps other people too, what works for one may not work for another but I thought it was worth mentioning for anyone, who like me doesn't believe that they should spend the rest of their life's wasting money on expensive drugs and creams to control this( though I'll still be using the cocoa butter to keep the skin soft and the odd sauna here and there).Good luck to all and here's to looking forward to next summer!!!!

I'm wondering if wheat isn't "inherently bad" but an individual can inherit an allergic reaction to wheat, dairy, etc. As a dairy farmer, this is not good news for me!

You know what? this makes sense, because when i think about it, i never had kp until i started drinking 3 glasses of milk a day for a couple of years. I 've had kp since, and it's not going away, even after i stopped drinking milk completely. So how can we undo the damages that have already been done? anybody knows?

I have had KP since my early teens. I have recently found a regimen that is working against my KP and is working really well for me. My daughter has it on her upper legs. I can't not give her milk, she is only 20 months. I ate well during and after my pregnancy and my KP spread all over my legs really bad. So I don't know about this eating right and cutting out of diets because I did eat well. This is a gene we are handed down from another person. I don't see how we can controll that. I can't cntroll it for my daughter and I could not controll it for myself.

I'd say it may take different people different times to be cured completely of it.It may be that you need to discover if there are any other irritants that you're ingesting.

Our ancestors would have never eaten things like bread, cakes etc, these are processed man made food stuffs that can cause allergies in some people.People who suffer from Coelic's Disease can't eat wheat ever, it destroy's the villi in their intestines and causes cancer. That fact alone puts me off eating it.
