Nothing like joining a club you really don't want to belong too, lol! I am so relieved to find others out there like me. I couldn't believe my eyes when I read about others with skin picking problems. That has been my personal "dirty little secret" for years. I go in binges; I can go months without touching my KP, then stress usually gets to me. BTW, I diagnosed myself. For something so common, why are so many doctors in the dark about KP?

I read some of the medical resource articles. It seems like it is just not taken seriously. I know it's not skin cancer, but there seems to be little consideration given to the tremendous psychological concerns that stem from KP. We have all had self esteem issues with this, some of us have dealt with the OCD aspect with the picking and picking and picking, and it has even contributed to the depression of KP sufferers, including myself.

I just found this site. I have a 2 month old precious son. My KP was great during my pregnancy- I even wore sleeveless shirts! Now it's back worse than even which is what lead to to researching.

Strength in numbers, guys!
Love,
Ary99

Well… welcome to that club!! Lol Now that you have self-diagnosed yourself, and have read a little bit more about condition (you can find plenty on info on the main pages of the site: the index, about kp, and in library and resources) you might want to sit down with your doctor. You are right in saying that the medical community doesn’t seem to take this condition seriously, but in a way, it is our own fault. We haven’t made ourselves be taken seriously. Now that you know a little more, you can talk to your doctor with more knowledge and assertiveness. (no more letting your self be blown off!!) … As for the OCD picking… have you tried having acrylic nails done? I know you couldn’t during the pregnancy (yucky yucky fumes are not good for your beautiful baby boy) but now that your son is here you can… In fact, you can even use the excuse that you are doing it as not to cut your son with your own nails!! Lol (it’s worth a shot… those nails are really blunt!) Luckily, fall is pretty much here so you won’t have to worry too much about sleeveless shirts… You can use these months to treat yourself and hopefully better your condition before the sun and sand time comes around!! Take care and let us know how things go! Lots of love, Mel …….. P.S… be careful what topical ointments you use if you are breastfeeding!
