Genetic

I was wondering if KP could be obtained in any other way besides being genetic. As far as I, my mom, and my grandma know, NO ONE in the family for about 150 years back has had KP. My grandma can verify this because she is 98 years old! Also, my ancerstry is that of Eastern Europe and American Indian...not that it has much to do with it or anything. I was just wondering if KP can infect you in more than one way because I am the only person in my family who has it. Thankyou.

just about everything is genetic. even if no one's had it, someone may have been carrying the gene and you just happened to be the unlucky one who got it and at the same time have the activated form of it. believe me, i am a genetic scientist. j/k.

How can you be so sure, not all people who have KP have it bad. My step sister has it so mild, only a few bumps on the back of one arm. She is going to be 29 yrs. old and thats the worst it has ever been for her. When I only had it on the backs of my arms it was so slight and I never gave it a second thought. Just a thought for you to consider. One person in your family tree could have had it slightly.

I agree with Kim. There have probably been a couple of cases of kp in your family, but perhaps they have just been so mild that no one thought twice about them. My nephew, for instance, has such a mild case, it doesn’t look like anything more than a mild heat rash… 50% of the world’s population has this condition. But a much smaller percentage has it as bad as most of us do… Look hard at some of your family members. You might just find a bump or two! Lots of love, Mel
