Okay, here is my take, rant, dissertation. I know it's bad to just bitc* about it, but I want to see if anyone else agrees. I have had this condition for about 13 years (I'm 27 now) It is really bad and widespread. It has been a source of depression, frustration and intense anger. I know I will offend some people, but I am not trying to spread negativity or bad vibes. I hate KP as much as everyone else and would welcome a miracle cure, but I don't think that is going to happen. For starters I don't think the "professionals" know anything about what they are talking about. these textbook defintions/treatments etc...make me sick. They say it is a "genetic condition" This is meaningless. Of course it's genetic. Everything about your body is technically a result of genetics. Genetics does not mean simply if your parents have it or don't have it then you will or won't. Some traits you receive from your parents, others are new traits as a result of your mother's chromosomes as well as your father's. Two people with brown hair, yes, can have a child with blond hair. So I dismiss the genetic aspect of it. The next phallacy, is the common notion that it will simply clear up as you get older (the common age used is 30) NOT TRUE. Yes, I'm sure that some cases do get better as a course of natural time, but to think it will magically dissapear in your 30's or 40's is not true. Because skin constantly renews itself in ALL people, we are only treating the symptoms, not the cause. Although there is a claim that doctors, dermatologists etc...do not know how the kertatin "glue" that forms the outer layer of skin really works the HOW is really irrelavant. Even if they did know how it worked the only way to stop KP would be to stop the actual process of skin renewal and shedding. An impossibility. Once you sucessfully treat the symptoms of a flareup of KP, there is simply another layer of skin cells on it's way up (adults have a skin turnover about every 28 days) Because this process is gradual over the 28 days the new skin coming up gets stuck a few days after you clear out the existing clogged pores. Yes, I know some people with different degrees of KP have had success treating the symptoms and that is awesome. But when you consider the overall cost of having to buy bottles and bottles of treatment be it Pernox, Oxy or whatever just to keep it in check it is a drain on most people's wallet as well as will power, when the symptoms return. I don't know I'm not claiming to have a solution, I am just someone who has had KP bad for years, done quite a bit of research, and spent A LOT of time and money trying to fight it. NO luck for me so far, and maybe I am just bitter. I am sorry if I have made people mad, depressed etc...I feel lucky to have place to vent though...
Peace out.

You are right that a cure for KP is unlikely if not impossible. Although we all would like an answer as to cause, if it won't fix the problem, does the cause really matter? Yes, it is expensive to fight KP, but there is an emotional payoff for fighting. Giving up feeds the depression and anger. I have lived with KP and have the scars to prove it for all my life - I am 34 and it has gotten worse in my 30's. I have tried doing nothing and waiting it out, but when I found this sight, I started fighting it. The self confidence I have gained just from taking a proactive point of view is worth the money. I have not found my success story treatment yet, but I will keep looking. I spend far more money on hair products to fight dryness and grey hair and skin products to keep my face clear of blemishes and the gym to keep my body fit. We all spend money fighting wrinkles, fat, stretch marks, cellulite, greying, balding - I could go on endlessly. KP is just one more physical flaw for me to fight, but fight I will!
