Well, that was a real waste of time! Appt. took 10min. The derm walked in, took one look and dx-ed KP (which we knew from his pediatrician). Basically said that everything we were doing are the right things, and that we shouldn't waste too much time trying to treat it at this stage, as he is so young and it doesn't bother him. It was sort of a relief to hear that it won't get worse, if we don't keep up with treatment, but I was really hoping they might at least have SOMETHING new to have us try. She did say we could try Retin -a, but that kids can be very sensitve to it, and it may do more damage than good at this point. She advised us not to use a loofah or buffpuff, since he seems to be reacting bad to it, alot of irritation and he's fighting us each night when we do it. Basically, she said that moisturizing with the carmol would at least help with the dryness. It wouldn't be so bad except he has it pretty bad on his face as well, so it's quite noticable to others... Oh well... Just thought I would vent... oh, I did order some of the SA powder from medichest more than a month ago. I never got it. Never charged for it (got the carmol in a week). The order was probably lost, but in hindsight, it probably better I didn't. Probably would be too strong for his young sensitive skin... alison |

Hi Alison, I just read your post. My one-year old was just diagnosed with KP and I'm DEVASTATED. I guess you could say her case isn't really that bad, but the fact that it's on her cheeks is KILLING me - especially the fact that this could remain for YEARS or even for LIFE!! Just wondering if you have any success stories/comments/suggestions to share with me?? What are you using on your son's face/body and is it working???? |
